As we reported earlier, today is The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit day at Comic-Con 2012 (aka #HobbitCon) and LEGO® was kind enough to send us this exclusive image of a brand new ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey‘ Playset! The set is called ‘An Unexpected Gathering’ and features Bag End with six mini-figures. As you can see in the image above, we have Bofur holding an axe, Bombur with a sausage and knife, Dwalin wielding a really large weapon and knife, Balin with chalice, Gandalf the Grey with walking staff, and Bilbo Baggins. As you can see the set is highly detailed with greenery, vegetables and much more. From the looks of the image we’ll have a nice inside component to play with as well. There is just one week until Comic Con 2012 starts with Preview Night on Wednesday, July 11. In a new interview with Collider, Hugo Weaving chats about films both old and new.
There’s his delight at Australian film Last Ride (now three years old) has finally achieved a US release in NYC theatres, and nationally through VOD.
He speaks of working with the Wachowskis again on Cloud Atlas, what his love of Berlin.
Plus he touches on reprising Elrond for The Hobbit, the different tone of the new films, and how he thinks the 3D will work wonderfully well for the type of film it is.

Ages ago, John Rhys-Davies spent a few days visiting the Hobbit set while he was in New Zealand. Unlike Elijah Wood or Orlando Bloom, for well-known reasons there was no announcement that he would reprise his role as Gimli son of Gloin.
However, at a recent convention, a Reddit reader asked him point-blank about a possible cameo in the Hobbit.
At first [Rhys-Davies] denied it, but after a little pressing he smiled really big, laughed, winked, and said that maybe it was possible. His smile… his laugh… I’m taking this as a pretty big indicator that he will be involved in some small way.
Considering that in Lord of the Rings, Rhys-Davies also provided the voice of Treebeard, could it be possible that for The Hobbit he might cameo something like the voice of one of the trolls? (Highlight the sentence to see our hidden, possibly spoilerish speculation!)
For LEGO developer, Traveller’s Tales, it’s all about the journey with their first venture into “LEGOfying” an Academy Award Best Picture winner. Executive Producer Nick Ricks shared at E3 that the team has been working closely with LEGO and WingNut Studios/New Line to recreate The Lord of the Rings experience as authentically as possible. Some in-game sequences are not completely made of LEGO with cinematic sequences added.
“There’s so much fantastically framed cinematography and brilliant camerawork. We can’t improve on that, so we just need to take it and put it into the game,” Ricks explained.
The usual LEGO voices for characters have also been replaced with theatrical ones such as Orlando Bloom for Legolas, and to streamline the journey, the game world has been created around Tolkien’s original maps where characters can move from Hobbiton to Mordor without jumping in and out of chapters.

A son of Gondor has arrived from Sideshow Collectibles. Boromir, Son of Denethor is the sixth statue from Sideshow’s growing
and spectacular The Lord of the Rings statue line. Unlike the other statues in this line this one does come from a moment in the film that you can only see if you watch the extended version. They have captured Boromir’s stirring speech to the troops upon them taking back the western half of Osgiliath.
PACKAGING
The graphics on the box for Boromir follows the same path as previous releases from this series. You have the front and black panels, which are black with The Lord of the Rings and Boromir done in a shade of Silver. While on the sides of the box you get an image of the statue from two different angles. The material of the box is different though as the past boxes have been more of a matte finish where as this one is more glossy. Inside the box of course you have the protective foam with multiple areas for the many pieces that this statue comes with.
