J.R.R. Tolkien’s newest posthumous work lands in retail today. The body of the non Middle-earth tale is told in two narrative poems told in the form of Norse mythology with a Tolkien lecture and an introduction from his son Christopher. Tolkien was a master of the forms of Old Norse and Old Englsih poetry while for most of us, that brilliance is likely to go unappreciated, there is still treasure to be gleaned in understanding the author and the traditions that led him to construct his own cosmology.

Not-for-profit fan film “The Hunt For Gollum,” is making its world premiere online today. The 40-minute production, made by fans, for fans, is free to watch at www.thehuntforgollum.com. A quick glance at the film makes it clear it that Peter Jackson’s “Lord Of The Rings,” trilogy was a big influence on this production. Congrats to the filmmakers!
For those of you who may not be aware, each year at Comic-Con, collectible companies release specific items just for folks attending the show. This year, Sideshow is releasing seven exclusives, one of which is a special Lord of the Rings item titled ‘Mount Doom’ – The Sam and Frodo Diorama. While we only have a teaser pic (see right) – one can deduce the diorama will feature one of the most dramatic sequences in Return of the King, when Sam struggles to carry Frodo up the side of Mount Doom. If you are attending Comic-Con, you’ll need to participate in Sideshow’s Priority Pre-Order on May 21st to snag one of these collectibles. alduya writes: On April 25 an organization called Invisible Children held an event in 100 cities in 10 countries called The Rescue. The goal is to get the child soldiers kidnapped by the Lord’s Resistance Army in Uganda rescued. As such the event involved people “abducting” themselves and waiting to be “rescued” by a mogul (a politician or celebrity) endorsing the cause. Billy Boyd was the rescuer in Edinburgh.
