Earlier today a brand-new clip from The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug premiered during a Google+ hangout with Peter Jackson, Evangeline Lilly and Richard Armitage.
It featured a glimpse of a very memorable moment from the book, as Bilbo helps the dwarves escape from the Mirkwood Elves. Premiere coverage, clips, and Q&As not enough for you? Well, you’re in luck. Peter Jackson has updated his Facebook page with the latest Production Diary — picking up from where the last one left off, with pick-up shoots and post production. This time around, we get a great look at Smaug’s lair (look out for a new teasing shot of the great dragon himself!) and Lake-town (including Stephen Fry’s The Master). Over the past week or so, various press screenings for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug have been occurring all over the globe. Strictly speaking, everyone (including several TORn staffers) is supposed to be under embargo and NDA until December 8 at 12.01am PST, but in a clever (and seemingly successful!) work-around, TIME magazine has dropped the film in at the number 10 spot on its top films of the year.

Do you want to go behind-the-scenes on the filming of The Desolation of Smaug? This is one of the traditional purposes of B-roll footage and, guess what? You can now see samples of that footage!
As with last year, the production (or Warner Bros.) has just released some of the B-Roll footage, so here are three clips for your viewing pleasure below. Now, be warned that since it follows the action of the film in a fairly linear pattern, it’s going to be quite revealing. If you’re waiting for the cinema to see how everything pans out, maybe it’s best to look elsewhere right now. We’re not kidding!
Also, there is dialogue, snippets of which we have transcribed, but it’s hard to know whether it’s the final dialogue that made the cut. This is an invitation only event being hosted out at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, CA. It combines set locations, images of real world New Zealand, and a little movie magic to bring to life much of what makes New Zealand the perfect location for all things ‘Middle-earth’.
