We had heard that Hall H had been turned into a massive surround screen for The Hobbit, but now we understand precisely what people mean!

Even better, Warner Bros. used the panoramic montages that they created for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and the Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.

Why? Because they also revealed the panoramic scroll for The Hobbit: the Battle of the Five Armies and we can get a bit of a taste for six key scenes of the final film!

Just a warning, because these are screencaps from phone vid (see the Screenscrush video at the bottom), the sharpness is not the best. We’re certain that Warner Bros. will debut the real thing in a few days so if you’re after quality you might want to skip this for now. tumblr_mvwwq3Iay01sml467o4_1280 Well, the long wait is over. Peter Jackson and his team brought much Hobbit goodness to San Diego Comic-Con’s Hall H today, and blew everyone’s minds.

To say the event zoomed past at an overwhelming pace would be a massive understatement. We’re digesting everything seen and said, and will continue to update as we work through the visuals.

In the meantime, please read on for TORn staffer Mr Cere’s insta-summary of what was shown and said! And, warning folks, if you’re avoiding the details of the teaser trailer because you’d like to see it yourself first … there are spoilers below! 300891id6a_TheHobbit_TDOS_Tauriel_BusShelter_48inW_x_70inH.inddEvangeline Lily spoke to Clevver Movies at Comic-Con about her book The Squickerwonkers, as well as the experience of shooting her final scene in the trilogy.

She says that it comes near the end of the final film, in the last fifteen minutes, and was her favorite experience from the shoot, though it left her physically and mentally exhausted. Continue reading “Evangeline Lilly speaks about shooting her final scene”

EvangelineLilySDCC_QandA03Nerd HQ hosted a Q&A with Evangeline Lilly, where she talks about Lost, her new book – The Squickerwonkers, what’s on her bucket list, her humanitarian work and of course her character, Tauriel from The Hobbit.

You might want to fast forward to the 2:43 minute point when the Q&A actually begins.

Evangeline also talks about the new interactive version of Squickerwonkers that’s coming out, and about working with a Kiwi composer on it and having Sylvester McCoy narrate the story. “It contains animated elements, little easter eggs and things kids can touch and they come to life.”

She discusses her approach to Tauriel saying that she was super proud that she wasn’t just there as a kick-ass woman who can slay and kill. “Look what I can do is, I can protect, I can have compassion and I can care and be gentle and not be like “Urgh!”, but be feminine and graceful while slaughtering orcs.”

Kz0snprSAN DIEGO — Warner Bros. definitely has something up its sleeve for Saturday at Comic-Con, but Thursday was left to the fans.

Staffers of TheOneRing.net were invited to to take the stage, in what has become a Comic-Con tradition, to talk Middle-earth movies from Peter Jasckon, and this year for the final Hobbit film. It was extra pleasing to follow the fantastic and ever-more-popular George R.R. Martin after his panel. Clifford Broadway made sure to sit in Martin’s chair.

Panelists were:

Chris Pirrotta — Co-founder of the site and a big part of TORn conventions for years, Calisuri was on hand to finish what he started.

John Tedeschi — A long-time staffer from New York, Thor moderated the panel keeping the rest of us in check.

Clifford Broadway — The site’s Quickbeam, Cliff adds a depth of knowledge or all the adaptations of Tolkien’s works, not just the latest from Jackson.

Kellie Rice — As a writer and unabashed fan known as part of the Happy Hobbit, Kellie added a feminine touch to the proceedings.

Larry D. Curtis — With several trips to New Zealand and five weeks on set during filming of the films, MrCere is a convention vet but was also silent during certain portions of the proceedings.

We hoped we were a fun and diverse group and we tried to strike a conversational balance on the panel. We also knew we had a little extra time because of the cancellation of the panel following ours. We focused on where we left off last and then went deep into spoiler territory with a lot of speculation but also content taken from clues from interviews, official photos and rumor.

The conversation also generated some laughs when members of the audience had not read the books and learned the most elementary of spoilers, such as about who lived and who died.

Our audience polls also highlighted the popular opinion of fans on many fronts. Forged by and for fans, TheOneRing staff was honored to be a part of the programming at San Diego Comic-Con. We were also honored to have LOTR guru Jim Rygel stop by to say hello to the audience!
