You may recall that — just a couple of weeks before Comic-Con — a new version of the first Hobbit trailer debuted in USA cinemas attached to the Pixar film Brave.
This trailer was so indistinguishable from the first trailer that it lead to it being dubbed by some as Hobbit Trailer 1.1. Finally, it’s online. Thanks to Ringer Daniel for the heads-up, and the cheat-sheet (highlight below for minor spoilers) of what’s different.
- 0:23 — Bilbo’s reaction to Gandalf’s arrival
- 1:57 — Bilbo hiding behind a tree in Mirkwood
- 1:59 — Gandalf, the dwarves, and Bilbo running through a forest

Noted satire website Daily Mash has taken aim at Peter Jackson’s plans for three hobbit films.
DIRECTOR Peter Jackson has announced plans to tell the story of The Hobbit across a variety of media including chinaware.
Despite the Tolkien’s original novel of The Hobbit being far shorter than Lord of the Rings, Jackson has insisted that telling the tale of Bilbo Baggins via an array of expensive things is the only way to fulfill his vision of fabulous wealth.
Warning: adult themes.

We all listened to and read Peter Jackson’s words from Comic-Con about three possible “Hobbit,” movies carefully. But we didn’t listen to all the words and we missed a few things.
He told us. He told us — he did.
He said exactly what he meant, he said it plainly and the media and fans (and me) tried to figure out what he meant when he told us in plainness. Monday, Jackson dropped an atomic bomb of news and fandom reacted accordingly.
“The Hobbit,” adapted for the screen from the 300-page, 75-year-old book by J.R.R. Tolkien changed from from two movies to three in the blink of a Facebook post.
AMBITION
More on the words we ignored in a minute. We need to figure out when these films break, what it means for fans and websites and studios and cinema and the director, but lets not rush past the size and scope of this news. Lets not walk around Paris admiring all the cafes and churches without also pausing and noticing the big tower in the center of town.
We witnessed, the last few weeks since Comic-Con, something monumental, unprecedented, unparalleled and a little bit crazy. Jackson (and when we say “Jackson” we always mean the director and Walsh, Boyens and a team of others supporting their vision) is in unchartered territory here. Our final look at the booths of Comic-Con 2012 ends with Gentle Giant.
Gentle Giant will be doing busts of many of the characters appearing in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Until Comic-Con we had not had a chance to see just what Gentle Giant would have in store for fans. Their booth did not disappoint.
The four characters making an appearance at Comic-Con were: Thorin (Comic-Con 2012 Exclusive), Gandalf The Grey, Gollum, and Dwalin (2012 PGM member exclusive). All four of these busts looked great and I think their quality means fans will be jumping all over this line. Plus the ballpark figure for this range of collectibles will run $70.

We have exclusive and reliable news from Ringer Spy Thrush that New Line has registered the following film titles:
- The Desolation of Smaug
- The Battle of Five Armies
- The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
- The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies
Apparently this doesn’t mean New Line is definitely going to use one, or both, or either of them! Our spy tells us that because they must register their eventual title, studios often register multiple titles. One could suggest, based on these titles, that maybe we’ll have a change to the first film title? That ‘An Unexpected Journey’ memorabilia would sure increase in value! We’ve included some completely fan made versions of the movie title logos below! Enjoy! Continue reading “EXCLUSIVE: New Line registers Hobbit movie titles”
