EXCLUSIVE: New Line registers Hobbit movie titles

July 31, 2012 at 10:46 am by newsfrombree  -

We have exclusive and reliable news from Ringer Spy Thrush that New Line has registered the following film titles:

  • The Desolation of Smaug
  • The Battle of Five Armies
  • The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
  • The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies

Apparently this doesn’t mean New Line is definitely going to use one, or both, or either of them! Our spy tells us that because they must register their eventual title, studios often register multiple titles. One could suggest, based on these titles, that maybe we’ll have a change to the first film title? That ‘An Unexpected Journey’ memorabilia would sure increase in value!  We’ve included some completely fan made versions of the movie title logos below! Enjoy!

of course he’ll look cool, alan and john are great artists and PJ knows what works and doesn’t work! 🙂

  2. tombombadill says:

I’m sure PJ knows excactly what he’s doin’. Don’t worry, they will make three remarkable works of art

  3. Sean Emery says:

    The Hobbit: “An Unexpected Journey”

The Hobbit: “The Road Goes Ever On”

The Hobbit: “There And Back Again”

    Peter, please….

  4. Random Person says:

Good grief there are going to be three movies? Come on.

  5. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

The Hobbit: There and Back Again

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies is too reveiling!!! (PJ You don’t want to give that away to the people who never read the book. The Desolation of Smaug is at least on the map of Middle Earth. and I’m guessing Smaug must be mentioned in the first movie so The Desolation of Smaug is a perfect fit! The battle of the 5 armies should remain a SURPRISE!!!)

  6. Ron says:

What happened to The Battle of Five Armies?? But I think your sequence does work. Although, now that I think about it, There and Back Again is a title that implies the whole story, not merely the last third!

  7. Ron says:

That is nice. However, I have over the last few days grown fond of The Desolation of Smaug. 🙂

  8. Ron says:

Well, I guess I assumed the second and third movies would be called The Desolation of Smaug and The Battle of Five Armies, respectively. That would leave the first movie to be called An Unexpected Journey and no place for There and Back Again. 🙂 But I hope you are right. I would leave out Battle of Five Armies, personally. But then, There and Back Again does suggest the entire story, not merely a third of it!

  9. yashz britz says:

The Hobbit: The Final Battle . i think that would be nice title in case.

  10. mandolinguitar says:

Depends on wether the first third film will be a bridge film or not… I think they want to film the hunt for gollem and other events after bilbo’s journey too. So in a way “There and Back Again” can be used as a title for the 2nd movie and “The Road Goes Ever On” for the third…

  11. Eowyn says:

    Me too!

  12. Elisabeth says:

I think they may use “There and Back Again” as a title for the whole trilogy! Like the original trilogy of FOTR, TTT and ROTK is The Lord of the Rings 🙂

Omg, I just can’t wait for the now THREE MOVIES! My life is now complete <3

  13. mandolinguitar says:

Peter, don’t ruïn it with naming it “the Desolation of Smaug” pls

  14. StriderIsMyDog'sName says:

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is the best! The other one is kinda boring.

  15. Jaspisstone3 says:

They are planning to ruïn the second movie by calling it “The Desolation of Smaug”! hopefully they see the comments about “The Road Goes Ever On”

  16. Jaspisstone3 says:

“The Desolation Of Smaug”= lame, emotionless and unreleated. Completely doesn’t belong between those two great titles: “An Unexpected Journey” and “There And Back Again”.

  17. Eleron says:

Personally I like “The King Under the Mountain”

  18. ringo says:

these aren’t movie titles. they’re video game titles, for sure
