Future “Hobbit” director Guillermo del Toro and former “Lord of the Rings” director Peter Jackson sat down with a world-wide internet audience and answered a lot more than the announced “20 questions” this weekend.
Hosted by Weta, there were a lot of minor details and significant confirmations and revelations about the gigantic production that will yield two “Hobbit” related movies, one in 2011 and the second in 2012.

We had the opportunity to chat with Guillermo del Toro this morning from his current HQ in London. He’s hard at work putting the finishing touches on ‘Hellboy II: The Golden Army’ and taking interviews from news outlets about that film, and the recent announcement that he’ll be doing ‘The Hobbit’ and a subsequent Hobbit sequel down the line.

Celebriel sends this in: New Zealand has added a large swathe of high-country farmland made famous in the Lord of the Rings films to its network of conservation parks. Land Information Minister David Parker announced the government had paid $NZ4.7 million ($A4.03 million) for almost 21,000 hectares of the 26,000ha Mesopotamia station. It was established by author and farmer Samuel Butler, who made its stunning landscape famous in his 1872 novel Erewhon – the name of an adjoining station. More recently, the station was the location for the Middle Earth city of Edoras in Peter Jackson’s film portrayal of the Lord of the Rings. Edoras Added to New Zealand Park System
Contrary to previous reports location scouting is currently *not* taking place anywhere, including New Zealand. Peter’s camp is firmly in ‘Lovely Bones’ completion stage, then a short summer holiday before any work will begin on ‘The Hobbit’. More to some soon!
