Australians Cate Blanchett, Hugo Weaving and Barry Humphries will all attend the world premiere of the first Hobbit movie in New Zealand next week.
Warner Bros. has announced the stars who will attend the first screening of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, in Wellington.
Filmmakers Sir Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens will also be joined by Martin Freeman, who plays the central role of Bilbo Baggins; Richard Armitage, who stars as the dwarf warrior Thorin Oakenshield; Andy Serkis who plays Gollum and Elijah Wood who plays Frodo Baggins.
There may be a nearly 10-metre statue of Gandalf the Grey above Wellington’s Embassy Theatre, but the actor who plays the character, Sir Ian McKellen, won’t be there to see it for himself.
McKellen said he was sorry he could not attend. “I know they (the cast) will have a wonderful welcome from the fans and I envy them. As ever, my heart is in Wellington, and I send my love.”

Here’s some new, unpublished images from The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey courtesy of Cinemarcado! The new photos reveal scenes with Bilbo Baggins, Gandalf The Grey and a photo of a very youthful-looking (and slightly creepy) Frodo Baggins. Some of TORn’s chatters suggest that the images may not have been colour-graded yet.

The CBS “Sunday Morning” variety news show had a nice interview with Elijah Wood this weekend. It included a short retrospective of much of his entire career from his debut with a small part in “Back to the Future II” (remember that?) to his current role in the TV series “Wilfred.” They also touched quite a bit on his role as Frodo in “The Lord of the Rings” and in the upcoming Hobbit movies; oh, and his love of music and food! Peter Jackson and company swooped into Comic-Con and unleashed some footage for the ravenous fans there but now he has unleashed Vlog #8 from his Facebook page full of spoilers, Comic-Con footage, John Howe, lots of actors saying hi and a little nostalgia from the crew. If you can stand a view of stone giants, Beorn’s house, Andy Serkis jamming on a sax and an absurd amount of “Hobbit” stuff, it is a must watch. The film hasn’t been released yet and already producer Michael Pellerin and his crew of behind-the-scenes people are making us nostalgic for it! And, sure sounded like Jackson reads TheOneRing.
