Orlando Bloom — who we sometimes know as the elf of Mirkwood, Legolas Greenleaf — made an appearance on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon to discuss his role in the first Broadway production of Romeo and Juliet in 36 years.
He also chatted with Fallon about The Hobbit, and they showed a short clip of The Happy Hobbit crew’s reaction to the Desolation of Smaug trailer. Check it out! (more…)Posted in Headlines, Hobbit Movie, Orlando Bloom, Television, The Hobbit
TheOneRing.net readers will remember actor Thomas Robins as Deagol, from that wonderful scene with Andy Serkis at the opening of The Return of the King; and some sharper-eyed viewers may also have spotted him (under heavy prosthetics!) as Young Thrain, in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. What you may not know is that New Zealander Robins also works as a producer and director, and TORn recently had a chance to chat to him about his latest project. It’s an intriguing one, for sure, and involves combining New Zealand film makers with the nascent movie industry in Laos! Staffer greendragon talked to Robins to find out more, and of course to ask him about time spent in Middle-earth! Read the full interview – and find out how you can get involved with Robins’ new movie project - after the break.Posted in Hobbit Cast News, Hobbit Movie, Lord of the Rings, LotR Cast News, LotR Movies, Movie Return of the King, New Zealand, The Hobbit, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey
Looks like Australian ringers will have an opportunity to catch up with Dominic Monaghan in Novewmber when he makes appearances at both the Adelaide and Brisbane editions of the Supanova pop culture expo.
British actor Dominic Monaghan is the latest celebrity to join Supanova’s ensemble cast attending November’s expos in Brisbane and Adelaide. Best known to audiences as the Hobbit Meriadoc ‘Merry’ Brandybuck in Peter Jackson’s adaptations of The Lord of the Rings, Monahagn also starred in J.J. Abrams’ Lost as rock star Charlie Pace. He also featured alongside Hugh Jackman in X-Men Origins: Wolverine and in sci-fi series FlashForward. (more…)Posted in Conventions, Dominic Monaghan, Events, Fans, Lord of the Rings, LotR Cast News

Beginning last Saturday and running through to September 4, TheOneRing.net is hosting a Pledge Drive (see the banner at the top) as well as a bunch of auctions for some really cool memorabilia and collectibles.
The day-to-day operation of the website, and the events we host, require a lot more resources than when we first started nearly 15 years ago. We sometimes find it hard to ask our readers for the help we need to keep running, so we began discussing what it is that makes TheOneRing.net worth helping out. It started out as a search for the Top Ten Moments of TORn, but the list got so long because each staff member had their own idea of important moments in TORn history. Here, instead, is something more encompassing: Ten Ways TORn helps serve Tolkien and Lord of the Rings fandom (listed in no specific order).
And, if you enjoy what we do, consider a donation (no amount too small, because every bit does help!) to keep us running!
If you can’t, that’s fine as well — keep reading, commenting and contributing. Because TORn is as much you as it is us!
If you’ve ever sent in an article, submitted a photo or report, posted on our messageboards, visited our chat, or commented on our twitter, facebook or g+, you’re the reason TheOneRing.net is among the largest and most-respected pillars of the Tolkien community on the web.Posted in Barliman News, Barlimans, Cannes 2001, Casting Rumors, ComicCon, Conventions, Costuming, Crew News, Director Rumors, DragonCon, Events, Fans, Fellowship of the Ring, Film Screenings, Green Books, Hall of Fire, Hobbit Book, Hobbit Cast News, Hobbit Movie, Hobbit Movie Rumors, J.R.R. Born August 28, 1968, today Billy Boyd turns 45! The Scottish actor and musician is of course, known to us for his role as the character Peregrin “Pippin” Took in the film adaptations of The Lord of the Rings. Currently, Billy is the lead singer and co-songwriter in the alt-rock band Beecake (named after Dominic Monaghan sent Boyd a picture of a cake covered with bees) which headlined TORN’s own One Expected Party earlier this in Los Angeles to celebrate The Hobbit: An Unexpected journey at the Oscars. Today he turns 45!
His take on working on the Lord of the Rings:
It was a tough shoot, you had to be there six days a week and it was absolutely exhausting. Peter Jackson has a really good bullshit monitor; if you’re just acting that you’re acting, he will know it, and he won’t allow it. But that’s great, because one of the main reasons that this film works is because, though it’s a fantasy movie, it’s so real.
And although I’d do it all again tomorrow, by the end we were absolutely exhausted. I remember one time after doing a scene, an emotional scene, I was exhausted, having a headache and all, and coming in the next day, and Pete said, ‘Okay, get yourself back to where you were yesterday’, and I just thought that I could do anything but work myself up to that emotional peak again.
As you are aware, many Hobbit cast members have their own twitter accounts. After Evangeline Lilly participated in a live Twitter Q&A the other day, we thought it would be a great time to remind you of the official accounts. As far as we know each actor manages their twitter personally, offering a great way to keep up with them.
