This was one of the surprise pieces at Comic-Con last year and I will say it was one heck of a surprise. A brand new Boromir statue capturing his last moments in battle trying to save Merry and Pippin is quite a powerful piece. I think many will agree this is Boromir’s most heroic moment. Not only does this piece have power and beauty, it is simply fantastic in terms of paint as well as detail. Fans who were at Comic-Con know that this statue doesn’t come alone; it’s meant to be paired with a Lurtz statue (he will be reviewed shortly). Both pieces come with a price tag of $299 and an edition size of 1000 pieces.

fotr-movie-posterOn December 18, 2001, TheOneRing.net introduced a new feature on our site: Ringer Reviews“A database of reviews from Tolkien fans all over the world, whether you loved, liked or hated the film this is where you can express your feelings in words and celebrate with your fellow fans the release of the first installment in the Lord of the Rings Trilogy.” Twenty-four hours later, fans had posted 3,000 reviews. By Christmas the count was up to 6,700 and on January 19, 2002, a month after FOTR opened, over 10,000 reviews had been submitted.

Today the count stands at 15,084 reviews. Unfortunately, the individual reviews reside on our old site and have been archived. But, we thought it might be fun to revisit some of the overall results, more of which can be found at the Ringer Reviews link above.

NYCC - New York Comic-ConIt’s almost time to gather in the Big Apple and enjoy all that New York ComicCon has to offer. As ever, TheOneRing.net will be there! Here are a few details for you:

We’ll be at Booth 3040, which – to make life simple! – is the same location as last year! We’ll have all the usual goodies for sale – plus this year we’ll have hoodies from our friends at LotH Hoodies!  Of course we’ll have many fabulous things you could win! And we’ll be ready just to chat and geek out with our fellow fans.

Talking of which – if you want to chat in a quieter location than the convention floor, this year we’re leading a ‘Fan Forum’ discussion group! Basically it’s a chance to join us to reminisce about the past seventeen years – since TheOneRing.net was founded and since Peter Jackson began pre-production in earnest on his Lord of the Rings trilogy. What a journey it’s been! Come and share memories with us – and maybe hear a bit about what we may see in The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies Extended Edition (which, as you know, screens in cinemas on October 13th!)  Find the Forum in room 1E03, Friday 4pm. Click here for details

And don’t forget about our PARTY! Thursday 8th October 8-11pm at The East Wing – a few tickets remain! Click here to buy. WETA will be co-hosting with us, and as usual your ticket includes the buffet, your first drink, a goody bag and two raffle tickets – all in a wonderful, private venue in Manhattan. Hope to see you there!

NYCC One Ring New York 1 Ring New YorkYou’ll find our WETA friends at Booth 622. Middle-earth guests at the convention this year include Sean Bean, John Noble, John Rhys-Davies and Elijah Wood!

As ever, we have a host of folks supporting us to make it possible for us to be at New York ComicCon. Many thanks to them all:

ROW NYC – making sure hard-working TORn staffers have somewhere to sleep. A great place to stay in Manhattan!

LotH Hoodies – check out their new ‘Galaxy Collection’.

Houghton Mifflin Harcourt – Tolkien publishers and donors of some great items for the party goody bags.

Cardboardcutouts.com – helping us decorate our booth with their fabulous standees.

Badali Jewelry – alas not exhibiting at NYCC, but they have given us some wonderful items for giveaways!

And of course, special thanks to Weta – party co-hosts!

Hope to see you in New York! Buy your party tickets here!

sdcc-logoIt is now just a little over 2 weeks from the start of San Diego Comic Con International, the biggest and most talked about Scifi/Fantasy convention on the geek calendar. We at TheOneRing.net have been busily planning for an epic week of Hobbity goodness to share with all of you, attendee and stay-at-home fans alike. This is your handy dandy little guide to when and where you can find us throughout the convention.

This year we will only be at one location on the Exhibit Hall floor, sharing space at the WETA booth #3613. We won’t have a huge amount of room in this booth, but then that is because WETA is pulling out all the stops for the final Hobbit film and ‘Bringing It’. You will want to make Booth #3613 a ‘must see’ location, even your non-Tolkien fan friends will want to visit WETA. So stop by the booth, say hello to TORn and WETA folks alike, buy some stuff, have your camera ready and enjoy the geekiness of all things Hobbit.

The full SDCC panel schedule will officially be announced beginning this Thursday, but here is advance notice of when our panel will take place.

An Unofficial look at the final Middle-Earth Film “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies” Thursday, 7/24/14, 5:00p.m. – 6:00p.m., Room: Indigo Ballroom at the Hilton Bayfront

The Hilton Bayfront is next to the Convention Center down near Hall H, and the Indigo Ballroom is probably the biggest room we have yet had at SDCC, so don’t be late and risk missing our sneak peek at the final film in the series.

Edited to Add 7/8/14:  Warner Bros. has announced their slate of films for SDCC and The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies will be among them. Their panel will be at 10am on Saturday, July 26 in Hall H. Peter Jackson was confirmed to be attending, and will be joined by Director George Miller with Mad Max Fury Road. Also mentioned was Jupiter Ascending and there will be a sneak peek screening of Richard Armitage’s Into the Storm on Wednesday, July 23 at 10pm at the Reading Gaslamp Theater, but no word yet on how to snag tickets for that.

Throughout the weekend TORn staffers will be tweeting, posting pics and videos to Facebook, posting stories here, live streaming, and giving you as much Hobbit news as we possibly can. This will include some of the new projects the actors are working on that are also at SDCC, such as “The Strain” with Sean Astin, “Legends” with Sean Bean and “Outlander” starring Graham McTavish. See the video below for a message from Graham regarding SDCC:

Graham McTavish has confirmed he will be at SDCC, so consider this your official invite to our Laketown Luau on Friday night, beginning at 7pm at the Kona Kai resort on Shelter Island. The SDCC website has finally posted the shuttle routes and we can now announce that the Kona Kai is on the Teal shuttle route. You can find the shuttle schedule here and remember to click on the PDF link at the bottom for the map of the hotels and route information. The Teal route is set to take about 30 minutes to get you between the convention center and the hotel, but if you have a car, the distance is only 6 miles away.  Lake-town Luau

You can only attend the Laketown Luau by purchasing a ticket at our Eventbrite page. With loads of games and a relaxed, outdoor environment, this will be a family friendly party, so bring the kids.

We will update this post or make a new one as soon as we have confirmation of what Warner Bros. might be doing for film previews, including “The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies” and whether PJ will put in an appearance. Same goes for confirmation on other film projects, such as Richard Armitage’s ‘Into the Storm” and Luke Evans’ “Dracula Untold”. We already know Outlander will have a premiere event during SDCC.

DragonOnShirtAnd so is TORn. Wondercon runs all three days of the Easter weekend here in Anaheim, California, just across the street from Disneyland. In fact, everyone outside was treated to Disneyland’s nightly fireworks celebration, Gandalf would have been proud. If you are coming to Anaheim this weekend for Wondercon, please remember to stop by our booth #1504, we nearly sold out of today’s supply of our Exclusive WonderCon Dragon shirt. More are coming on Saturday, don’t miss out, these shirts will never be sold anywhere else.

There have been some very last minute surprise guests announced from the big studios, three of which are of much interest to TheOneRing.net.

seanSean Bean was the first announced a few days ago to promote his new show “Legends” coming to TNT for a 10 episode run this summer. The panel will be at 2:30pm in room 300DE where they will show clips and have a Q&A with cast and creative team members. This looks like a really good spy-thriller series, so if you are attending Wondercon on Saturday, make sure to stop by. There is no indication if there will be a signing anywhere, but we will tweet @theoneringnet if that news becomes available.

Twentieth Century Fox just announced that “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” will be featured in their panel in the Anaheim Convention Center Arena on Saturday at 12:45pm. Andy Serkis will be a part of that presentation, followed AndyApedirectly afterwards with an Autograph signing session at the Boom! Studios booth #319. You have to buy the limited-edition Wondercon exclusive “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” print illustrated by Garry Brown. The autograph session begins at 2:30pm, but since this will be a ticketed event, stop by the booth in the morning.

And finally the Warner Brothers presentation, also in the Anaheim Convention Center Arena starting at 11am, will feature Richard Armitage as part of the cast presenting “Into the Storm” Not sure if he will drop in any references to “The Hobbit: There and Back Again” or not, but it would not be surprising if someone asked him a question about it. This looks like INTO THE STORMone heck of a natural disaster flick, should be a good panel. There is no indication if any of the films in the Warner Brothers track will be doing autographs, so again, watch our twitter feed at @theoneringnet.

And finally, at the end of the day at 5:30pm, TheOneRing.net will be hosting a panel of our own in room 300DE to talk about all things The Hobbit and Tolkien. This is the same room hosting Sean Bean’s presentation on “Legends”, and our own panel is sandwiched between the TV Guide’s Showrunners panel and the TV Writers Room panel, arrive early to guarantee you get a seat. We will try to post about the other panels mentioned here, but as you can see from the timing, it might be a wrap up post at the end of the night, since all of these run one right after the other. Please do remember to come visit us at our booth #1504 and get your TORn boothWonderCon Dragon shirt, the Free Bard shirt of the TORn Book club shirt, along with a Tauriel poster. We do have a few random bits of swag tucked away too, just to make things fun, especially for families (Hobbit activity books for the kids).

On Sunday, Sarumann will be hosting a special episode of the TORn Book Club from our booth, and then taking it out onto the exhibit hall floor. Barring any technical glitches, this will be taking place on Sunday at Noon, Pacific Time. It may be loud, mad and chaotic, but for those of you who have stuck through our SDCC live feeds already understands that. Hope to see many of you at the booth over the next two days, even if it’s just to drop by to say hello.

“This city was once the jewel of our kingdom. A place of light, and beauty, and music. And so it shall be once more! Let the armies of Mordor know this: Never again will the land of my people fall into enemy hands. This city of Osgiliath has been reclaimed for Gondor!

-Boromir to the Gondorian Troops after taking back Osgiliath

A son of Gondor has arrived from Sideshow Collectibles. Boromir, Son of Denethor is the sixth statue from Sideshow’s growing and spectacular The Lord of the Rings statue line. Unlike the other statues in this line this one does come from a moment in the film that you can only see if you watch the extended version. They have captured Boromir’s stirring speech to the troops upon them taking back the western half of Osgiliath.

PACKAGING

The graphics on the box for Boromir follows the same path as previous releases from this series. You have the front and black panels, which are black with The Lord of the Rings and Boromir done in a shade of Silver. While on the sides of the box you get an image of the statue from two different angles. The material of the box is different though as the past boxes have been more of a matte finish where as this one is more glossy. Inside the box of course you have the protective foam with multiple areas for the many pieces that this statue comes with.
