We’re about to begin our weekly Hall of Fire discussion on the TORn chat server and this session is going to be dedicated to dissecting all the interesting tidbits from Pater Jackson’s latest video diary.  (If you’ve been under a rock and missed it, it’s here.) So jump onto the chat via our Mibbit widget just below that works in your browser and join in the discussion!

We’re done folks! Thanks to everyone who came along! However, you can still visit our main chat room here where we’re talking Comic-con stuff!

It’s a little last minute, but considering Peter Jackson decided that Comic-con week would be a good time to put out a new production diary, we’ve decided that we really ought to have another rumour and speculation chat in the Hall of Fire.

So join us tomorrow, Saturday July 23 at 6pm EDT when we’ll pull apart Jackson’s latest offerings — the scenes in the Trollshaws, Gollum’s snippets of dialogue in the cave, Galadriel and Elrond, plus much more, and talk about what they mean for the movie!

It’s time to get our hands dirty with the latest Hobbit movie news and rumours again in the Hall of Fire!

There’s been a huge amount coming out over the past couple of weeks with the conclusion of the first block of shooting. Although script and plot details are being kept predictably close by the creative team, we do have a new production diary to analyse! What are your thoughts on the sets that we’ve seen? Where might they be? What scenes might have been being shot so far?

We’ve also had a rash of portrait photos of some of Thorin’s company of dwarves. What are your thoughts of how they look? Too “dark”? To hot? Just right? And what of the bios that have been published with each? What can we glean from poring through them? Continue reading “Movie rumours round-up this weekend in the Hall of Fire!”

Martin Freeman (Bilbo) and Aidan Turner (Kili) at today's press conference - this cast is a killer combo of wit and good looks.

“Fourteen individuals – and an ensemble.”

Today’s press conference opened with an apology from Peter Jackson, who said he couldn’t be there as he was “under a form of medical house arrest” since being hospitalised with a perforated ulcer last week.

“And to be honest, perhaps it’s just as well. These guys make me laugh so hard that I’d be in danger of popping a stitch or something,” Jackson continued in his statement.

Confirming the truth of that, the cast of 13 dwarves and one hobbit kept up a constant flow of quips and wisecracks throughout the whole press conference. We knew Martin Freeman was funny with a good script – well, he’s hilarious without one as well.

Many fans have been wondering whether 13 dwarves would become a generic mass in the film, or whether they would be fleshed out in the script to have individual personalities. Continue reading “Thirteen singing dwarves and a very funny Hobbit”

Dear reader –

Welcome to 2011 and TheOneRing.net. We have been around for a while now but this is an exceptionally exciting time heading into a year that will finally see the production of ‘The Hobbit’ start in earnest.

2010 was pretty eventful in dramatic and difficult ways. With lots of J.R.R. Tolkien books on our shelves along with our Middle-earth inspired movies, it will be fun to follow the production again as Peter Jackson, Weta and Warner Bros. move a reportedly wonderful two-part scrip from the page into digital 3D (also available in 2D!) The year ahead will bring us plenty of news, ideas, rumors and fun.

While many media outlets world wide will jump on the Hobbit news-reporting bandwagon, we will stay right here in our well-worn and comfortable seats and enjoy the ride.

We look forward to the experience along with you, dear reader. As always, TORn remains not-for-profit and forged by and for fans of J.R.R. Tolkien so thank you all for your past and future contributions and support. This is going to be fun!

We recently got our hands on what we think is some authentic Bilbo casting and production information which seemed to contradict something we knew with absolute certainty: The Hobbit production wanted Martin Freeman for Bilbo and has since as long ago as last year. Seemingly at odds with that fact was apparently concrete casting details about Bilbo and actors still giving audition tapes. Was the role sewn up or not?

A spy has provided an exclusive clue or two about what the role of Bilbo will be like and even a plot detail and a production outline but we were reluctant to report it because of apparent contradictions, but with all the recent Freeman news, it now fits in context. And yes, you have to read on. This is news you must work for, at least a little bit. Continue reading “Exclusive: Bilbo the Brave? Hobbit casting details”
