(Note: This is the first of several stories details what Peter Jackson told a select group of journalists about ‘The Hobbit’.)
Peter Jackson made the most of his first trip to Comic-Con by inviting 40 or so journalists, including TheOneRing.net and internet reporters to sit and chat in a room about “The Hobbit,” “The Lovely Bones,” “District 9,” and various other projects and passions.
For fans, the good news: ‘The Hobbit’ is progressing and Jackson and the writing team of director Guillermo del Toro, Fran Walsh and Phillipa Boyens are close to have a finished screen-play for the first of the two movies, allowing the studio to give the film a green light. Like always, Comic-Con is set to open with hoards and masses about to storm the white towers of the San Diego Convention Center. It’s being rumoured here and here that the casting of Bilbo Baggins for The Hobbit may be announced at Comic-Con next week. Daniel Radcliffe, James McAvoy and David Tennant are all rumoured to be in the running for the role – but according to what Peter Jackson told us when we spoke to him recently, the fans shouldn’t be holding their breath for a ‘Con announcement.
“No, we won’t be announcing Bilbo for a little while,” he said when we asked about a Comic-Con announcement. “We’re starting to think about casting, but we’re knee-deep in the script right now. And when we do go to actors, they’re probably going to ask to see a script, so we’re powering ahead with getting the first draft done.” More..
Comic-Con, a world showcase of pop-culture, has been trying to land Peter Jackson for the last decade since it was announce that he would helm the three-film adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s “Lord of The Rings.” Jackson sent along video to the mega-show for both LOTR and King Kong but for the first time the now big-time director will make the show in person. A new trailer for ‘District 9’ has popped up on Yahoo! featuring a ton more footage and more of the general plot of the film, it looks amazing.
‘District 9’, which Peter Jackson is producing and Sony will be conducting a panel for at Comic-Con with Peter and Director Neill Blomcamp attending. Check out the new trailer here. You may have already begun seeing TV News alerts about non-humans, stay safe out there people. D-9.com
