Tonight, via their newsletter, Weta Workshop announced they will have not one but two exclusives at this years Comic-Con. The first exclusive is the very first statue in their 1:6th line of collectibles from The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. It is none other than Richard Armitage as Thorin Oakenshield – with shield. This statue will be in full 1:6th scale with a price tag of $249 and an edition size of only 700 pieces world wide. The first 500 of these pieces will be sold at Comic-Con while the other 200 will be sold to those who can make it to the Weta Cave. A second version that doesn’t have the shield will be put up for sale this October to fans around the world. The second exclusive is the new print in the Middle-Earth print series, but it is the first based on The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. This print captures the teaser image from The Hobbit, with Bilbo looking out the front door of Bag End. The print will have an edition size of 500 pieces world wide. The first 100 will be signed by artist Gus Hunter while the reaming 400 will be unsigned. More will be printed later in the year to be sold for those who cannot make it to Comic-Con. Both items will have a limit of 2 per person.

Peter Jackson posted the following message on his facebook page a little while ago: “We made it! Shoot day 266 and the end of principal photography on The Hobbit. Thanks to our fantastic cast and crew for getting us this far, and to all of you for your support! Next stop, the cutting room. Oh, and Comic Con! Cheers, Peter J.”
As if our fingernails weren’t already bitten to the quick, now we start the long wait until the editing, soundtrack, etc. come together and the lights go down in theaters on December 14. Luckily, as PJ said, we have Comic-Con to look forward to, as well as new trailers and previews (please!), more production diaries (please! please!), the big premier in Wellington and all the publicity leading up to it. The Folks at Weta Workshop via their Facebook page Weta Workshop delivered a great teaser image of the upcoming environment Barad-Dur: Fortress of Sauron. This sure-to-be-amazing collectible will be unveiled to the world at Comic-Con in just a little less than a week’s time. Until then Weta is allowing fans to follow the process in bringing this collectible to the market place with a series of articles entitled Overcoming the Fear: Barad-Dur-Fortress of Sauron. There is just one week until Comic Con 2012 starts with Preview Night on Wednesday, July 11. But aside from the TORn panel and WB’s panel for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, you may be wondering what else there is for a Hobbit fan to do. Popwatch has just revealed the cover for Entertainment Weekly’s forthcoming Comic-Con edition, and the lead feature is The Hobbit.
Their blurb says that the mag will feature “exclusive images and on-set scoops from the first movies — An Unexpected Journey — including interviews with Martin Freeman (Bilbo Baggins), Ian McKellen (Gandalf), and director Peter Jackson.”
Even better, EW has also posted a brand-new gallery of set and promotional photos that we think might reveal some nifty new details of what we can expect from the movie! Go check them out!
We suggest not visiting the gallery if you are SPOILER averse!
