The schedule for Wondercon went public yesterday, so we are finally able to confirm that we are indeed hosting a panel on Sunday at 10:30am. Below you will find the posting from the Wondercon schedule website, but since the panel was presented, we have added one more panelist.

Mike Urban, also known as Ostadan, will be joining us. He is one of the author’s of TORn’s book “The People’s guide to J.R.R. Tolkien” and will help flesh out the discussion on the upcoming release of a standalone “Beren and Luthien” book. Continue reading “TORn goes to Wondercon in Anaheim, April 2”

If you have a Tolkien/Middle-earth inspired poem you’d like to share, then send it to poetry@theonering.net. One poem per person may be submitted each month. Please make sure to proofread your work before sending it in. TheOneRing.net is not responsible for poems posting with spelling or grammatical errors.

DragonOnShirtAnd so is TORn. Wondercon runs all three days of the Easter weekend here in Anaheim, California, just across the street from Disneyland. In fact, everyone outside was treated to Disneyland’s nightly fireworks celebration, Gandalf would have been proud. If you are coming to Anaheim this weekend for Wondercon, please remember to stop by our booth #1504, we nearly sold out of today’s supply of our Exclusive WonderCon Dragon shirt. More are coming on Saturday, don’t miss out, these shirts will never be sold anywhere else.

There have been some very last minute surprise guests announced from the big studios, three of which are of much interest to TheOneRing.net.

seanSean Bean was the first announced a few days ago to promote his new show “Legends” coming to TNT for a 10 episode run this summer. The panel will be at 2:30pm in room 300DE where they will show clips and have a Q&A with cast and creative team members. This looks like a really good spy-thriller series, so if you are attending Wondercon on Saturday, make sure to stop by. There is no indication if there will be a signing anywhere, but we will tweet @theoneringnet if that news becomes available.

Twentieth Century Fox just announced that “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” will be featured in their panel in the Anaheim Convention Center Arena on Saturday at 12:45pm. Andy Serkis will be a part of that presentation, followed AndyApedirectly afterwards with an Autograph signing session at the Boom! Studios booth #319. You have to buy the limited-edition Wondercon exclusive “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” print illustrated by Garry Brown. The autograph session begins at 2:30pm, but since this will be a ticketed event, stop by the booth in the morning.

And finally the Warner Brothers presentation, also in the Anaheim Convention Center Arena starting at 11am, will feature Richard Armitage as part of the cast presenting “Into the Storm” Not sure if he will drop in any references to “The Hobbit: There and Back Again” or not, but it would not be surprising if someone asked him a question about it. This looks like INTO THE STORMone heck of a natural disaster flick, should be a good panel. There is no indication if any of the films in the Warner Brothers track will be doing autographs, so again, watch our twitter feed at @theoneringnet.

And finally, at the end of the day at 5:30pm, TheOneRing.net will be hosting a panel of our own in room 300DE to talk about all things The Hobbit and Tolkien. This is the same room hosting Sean Bean’s presentation on “Legends”, and our own panel is sandwiched between the TV Guide’s Showrunners panel and the TV Writers Room panel, arrive early to guarantee you get a seat. We will try to post about the other panels mentioned here, but as you can see from the timing, it might be a wrap up post at the end of the night, since all of these run one right after the other. Please do remember to come visit us at our booth #1504 and get your TORn boothWonderCon Dragon shirt, the Free Bard shirt of the TORn Book club shirt, along with a Tauriel poster. We do have a few random bits of swag tucked away too, just to make things fun, especially for families (Hobbit activity books for the kids).

On Sunday, Sarumann will be hosting a special episode of the TORn Book Club from our booth, and then taking it out onto the exhibit hall floor. Barring any technical glitches, this will be taking place on Sunday at Noon, Pacific Time. It may be loud, mad and chaotic, but for those of you who have stuck through our SDCC live feeds already understands that. Hope to see many of you at the booth over the next two days, even if it’s just to drop by to say hello.

hobbitconlogoBONN — HobbitCon 2, in Bonn, Germany is just hours away from starting with a hotel packed full of special guests, lecturers, and fans from around the world.

The Maritim Hotel in Bonn hosts the entire event, which takes over the whole property for the weekend. A full slate of lectures and presentations are scheduled starting just a few hours from now. All of the 13 dwarves from The Hobbit movies are present save Richard Armitage, who is at WonderCon, James Nesbitt who was scheduled but had to cancel and Aiden Turner. That means Adam Brown, Jed Brophy, John Callen, Ken Stott, Mark Hadlow, Peter Hambleton, Stephen Hunter, Dean O’Gorman, Graham McTavish and William Kircher are all involved. (That means three trolls are here as well!) The gentlemen were present and were rumored to have been observed hanging around the hotel last night talking together and to each other. Reportedly, 26 countries are represented at the event.

The first HobbitCon
The first HobbitCon
Richard Taylor and Royd Tolkien were also in the house as was Mark Atkin — Thorin Oakenshiled in scale size. TheOneRing.net has three panels scheduled for the weekend, including one tomorrow evening, speculating on the third film in Peter Jackson’s adaptation. With the entire event scheduled in one place, it gives the whole affair a remarkable, intimate feeling that is a little challenging to explain. Its one of those things where you have to be there.

In fact, European fans can still make that happen, buying tickets by walking up to the hotel. Details can be found RIGHT HERE. TORn would love to see you in person around the hotel and at the first panel at 5 p.m.!

Expect updates all weekend long.

Wondercon logoConvention season is upon us, and the first big shindig on the TheOneRing.net Calendar is Wondercon in Anaheim. One RingSauron created the One Ring in secrecy, so little is known of how he created it. Gandalf was able to do research in the libraries of Gondor to determine the nature and look of the One Ring, but not much more on it’s forging. Luckily, our good friends at Badali Jewelry are much more forthcoming in how they make this very special item. Below is a video of just what goes into making the One Ring, minus the Malice of Sauron being added to it.

Now that you have seen the process, we asked the artisans at Badali what kind of timeline it takes, and here is the response from Janelle Powell:

From start to finish it takes us about a week to make each item, but that is because we are doing each step in batches to maximize our work time.  The actual time spent on each One Ring of Power is approximately 3-4 hours of hands on work time (meaning its in the hands of a jeweler and actively being worked on).  This does not include time for the investment to set up (approximately 1 hour), time in the burn out ovens (an overnight process), cool down time (15-20 minutes), time in the pickle (varies), time in the ultra sonic cleaner, and time in the tumblers (anywhere from 1hr to overnight).  If the item in question is one of our Gollum Gold 24k Gold Plated One Rings these are sent out of house to be plated which takes about a week and a half.  Once they come back from the plater we inspect each ring to make sure that the plating was done properly, string them on a chain and pack them in their draw string pouches.  If there is any enamel or paint work to be done on the ring, this adds anywhere from 10 minutes – 2 hours of time as well.  All and all, it’s a lengthy back breaking process, but the results are well worth it and ensure that we produce the highest quality items for our customers.

Badali Jewelry will be at Wondercon this coming weekend, and can be found at booth #1404, just a few spaces over from TORn’s booth at #1504. Make sure to stop by and say hello, check out their amazing work, and enter their drawing for some free jewelry. You can also visit them on the web right here.

hobbitconlogoThe convention season is about to start in a big way with TheOneRing.net appearing at shows across the U.S. and even at a special event in Europe. HobbitCon in Bonn, Germany, is packed full of Hobbit and Tolkien guests, including our own MrCere (Larry D. Curtis) who will present several panels about, as you might guess, The Hobbit.

Joining him is an amazing collection of 12 star guests that includes actors from The Hobbit film and Royd Tolkien, great-grandson of J.R.R. Tolkien. The lineup of special guests includes Sir Richard Taylor, some fan films and other prominent figures from the world-wide Tolkien community. Tickets are no longer on sale online but day or weekend tickets can be purchased directly from the event at the Maritim Hotel If you are in Europe this is an event without peer.

WONDERCON

Wondercon logoFrom the same folks who stage the world-famous San Diego Comic-Con, comes WonderCon in Anaheim, with a pretty incredible lineup that also includes TheOneRing.net staff previewing the last movie from Peter Jackson about Middle-earth, “The Hobbit: There and Back Again.” That can’t-miss panel takes place Saturday, April 19 at 5:30 p.m., in room 300DE.

We also will have a table on the sales floor to get exclusive TORn t-shirts and talk to staffers about all things Middle-earth. Our all-volunteer staff has an abundant representation in Los Angeles, making this a way to meet our friends.

MORE CONVENTIONS

CALGARY EXPO: April 24-27, Calgary. Staffers greendragon and Deej join a powerful Middle-earth lineup of guests that includes Sean Astin, Billy Boyd, Jed Brophy, Manu Bennett, and Dean O’Gorman. Also featured is Weta’s incomparable Richard Taylor. TORn will sell our exclusive convention shirts and meet fans and friends face-to-face!

FANTASYCON July 3 – 5, Salt Lake City. This show, focused on fantasy, has a heavy Middle-earth influence with celebrity guests and rumor has it they will add several others to a lineup that includes Sean Astin, John Rhys-Davies, Sylvester McCoy, Ken Stott and Graham McTavish. TheOneRing.net is partnering with the show and will be present at the celebration of all things fantasy with a booth, panels and some surprises.

SAN DIEGO COMIC-CON The grandaddy of pop-culture events in the world will once again feature Hobbit content from Warner Bros. and TORn. Director Peter Jackson is a likely candidate to be here and as well as a list of celebrities from the film to make their “Hall H” appearance. Plan to wait or camp in line. Our own panel is also in high demand and while nobody can camp overnight, we fill any room the SDCC hands us. This is Mecca for pop-culture. See you there!

DRAGON CON The annual event in Atlanta, Georgia is something of a home for all things Tolkien with the Tolkien Track of programming that definitely features TheOneRing.net and always includes some celebrities from the film world. This focuses on books, film, pop-culture, costuming, dancing, music and everything else you can think of. TORn staffers attending include greendragon, Deej, MrCere, Thorongil, often Quickbeam and usually a few more.

More conventions are likely including the New York Comic Con so expect lots more convention updates.
