This news comes to us from the Hellboy messageboards, where Del Toro posts regularly, via Compa-Mighty:
- Q: So is The Hobbit with GDT official?
GDT: Whew- Not yet. BUT there has been a lot of movement. And for the last few weeks there has been a lot of creative / cast / crew / visual talks and agreements and we have witnessed great progress in areas that I cannot disclose or that have already leaked from other sources. I am dying to share news but I have to be patient and wait until the papers are done and my attachment is real. Nevertheless- a LOT of progress in defining the films, their cast and crew. And, may I add, we are all happily in synch about all creative aspects so far and all willing and eager to move forth. I cannot say more but if all´s well the time will come To talk of many things: Of shoes — and ships — and sealing wax — Of cabbages — and kings…(Quote from Lewis Carroll- Ed).
- Del Toro went on to say that he was swamped by the last push to finish Hellboy II, but LOTR fans could expect some news in two weeks time (this was posted on April 2, so very soon) and “a nice item at Comicon”.

The San Diego Symphony Summer Pops will present the local premiere of “The Lord of the Rings Symphony” – composer Howard Shore’s epic adaptation of his movie soundtracks featuring orchestra, chorus and vocal soloists as well as illustrations from the Tolkien books. As if that isn’t enough to lure fans, the July 20 concert coincides with Comic-Con, the hugely popular event held at the San Diego Convention Center, adjacent to the Pops’ site at downtown’s Embarcadero Marina Park South. “We’re almost positive that ‘The Lord of the Rings Symphony’ will be a sellout,” says San Diego Symphony executive director Edward B. “Ward” Gill. “It should be a blockbuster.” [More]
‘Geek chic,” proclaimed the headline on the front page of a recent Weekly Variety. Peter Bart, the trade paper’s vice-president and editor-in-chief, wrote, “The annual carnival at Comic-Con” — the convention of comic-book fans, webheads and gamesters that this year drew 75,000 attendees to San Diego from July 22 to 25 — “reminds us that while Internet geeks don’t yet rule the world, they sure scare the hell out of Hollywood.” [More]
Ringer Spy Raven writes: Billy Boyd and David Wenham did an interview with Nevermore Magazine. The picture at the end of the interview and Billy sharing about why he locked Dom in the closet makes it worth it to at least read the article. They also have a Comic Con 2004 report up with a few photos from the LotR panel & the Lost panel. [More]
