ComicCon Rumos | Lord of the Rings Rings of Power on Amazon Prime News, JRR Tolkien, The Hobbit and more

If it’s July it must be San Diego Comic Con, and with that biggest of popular culture events you can bet TheOneRing.net is right in the middle of it all. No, there are no new Tolkien films on the horizon, but there are new collectibles, in a variety of styles, coming to fans bookshelves soon. There are also fan gatherings, at SDCC and beyond, and plenty of other tidbits of Tolkien news just waiting to be shared with one and all. And there will be a few Middle-earth alums attending the con this year, chiefly Elijah Wood and Graham McTavish. As many of you might have guessed, there were a couple of stories posted today that were a few facts shy of truthfulness, courtesy of your very tricksy TORn staff on the occasion of April Fools Day. Currently, Warner Bros has no plans to move the release date of “The Hobbit: There and Back Again” to July 2015 or any other date, and no, Peter Jackson has not hired Leonard Nimoy to reprise his “Ballad of Bilbo Baggins” song for the closing credits. We also had a little fun over on the message boards, highlighted by this post by DanielLB. Turns out there were April Fools jokes all over the inter webs today, and even a few with actual advertising, such as the Cheeteau perfume, that smells like Cheetos. None for me, thank you very much. A quick google search should come up with some of the best, but this reporter rather liked the the PBS report on Dolphins shooting rainbows out of their beaks, or Westjet converting to Metric time and giving you a mathematical equation to figure out the time conversion. So if you were scratching your head, wondering if something we said was true or not, rest assured that the two stories mentioned above were not true, but the interview with Luke Evans and the spoiler analysis from Cinemacon were true. And for anyone wondering why Garfield the Cat is being used here, the answer lies in my nickname.

San Diego Comic Con has begun to release their schedule, day-by-day, along with a ton of other information regarding everything a con-goer will need to know. But let’s concentrate on what you, the Tolkien fans need to know.

Earlier this week we heard direct from Peter Jackson that he would not be attending SDCC, nor would he be sending any cast or special filmed footage. While that is a bummer for Hobbit fans hoping to get a first look at some exclusive footage, all is not lost. We at TheOneRing.net have you covered, with our ‘Unofficial Sneak Peek of “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” panel taking place on Thursday, July 18 at 5:30 pm in room 6A. We’ll have numerous staff on hand to showcase the most current rumors, spy reports, conjecture, a surprise or two and a Q&A session.

This is where you, the fan, come in. We can’t have a Q&A session without insightful questions from a curious audience. In fact, because Peter Jackson and the cast will not be appearing, it is down to TORn and you, the fans, to represent for Tolkien fandom. We’ll bring the analysis and you bring the energy. Like last year, we will do a photo op for the Tolkien Cosplayers right after the panel. But if you don’t have a Tolkien themed costume you can still support this fandom by wearing a TORn shirt, you’ve got 13 years of shirts to choose from. Let’s turn the San Diego Convention Center into a demonstration of TORn Thursday.

Speaking of the Convention Center and the exhibit hall floor, you can find TheOneRing.net in not one, but two locations, just like last year. We’ll be with our good friends at Badali Jewelry in booth #532/534 and Weta Workshop at booth #3513.
