Former ‘Hobbit’ director (and all around classy guy for still replying to my emails) Guillermo del Toro has let it be known on his official site that he will announce his next project at this years comic-con. Good luck with it GDT!
Speaking of Comic-Con, TORN will open the first full day of the convention with a panel featuring founders/staffers Calisuri, Quickbeam and MrCere with Weta expected to have something to say as well. In addition, TORn staffers will likely be found at the Weta booth and at Slave Boy Films‘ booth with unique TORn t-shirts available at each. At last month’s Cannes Film Festival, actor Andy Serkis came to town to announce the creation of The Imaginarium, a performance capture facility based in London that he said aimed to bring performance capture within the reach of independent filmmakers. Serkis, who helped legitimise performance capture in the early 2000s through playing Gollum in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings Trilogy, sat down with IGN to talk about the technology and we couldn’t help but quiz him on his two big upcoming performance capture projects, Tintin and The Hobbit. As Guillermo Del Toro promised on the day the story broke here at TheOneRing.net of his departure from The Hobbit, he stopped by our message boards today with a few more comment for the fans:
“So – while the cited delays, contractual complexities or obstacles, cannot be attributed to a single event or entity – you will simply have to believe that they were of sufficient complexity and severity to lead to the current situation. Trust me on this, leaving NZ and the Hobbit crew is extremely painful. As stated before- a wealth of designs, animatics, boards and sculptures is left behind representing accurately my ideas for Mirkwood, Spiders, Wargs, Stone Trolls, etc, etc and everyone (PJ, FW, PB and myself) has the same goal in mind: to try and ensure the best possible transition of the movie to a new director.”
We at TheOneRing.net consider it a privilege to count Guillermo among our readers, members and friends and hope our relationship continues well into the future. We wish him well in wrapping up his involvement in The Hobbit and in all his future endeavors. Guillermo’s entire message can be found here.

Five Oscars and four Baftas are recognition for a body of work in the film industry, but a knighthood for Weta Workshop’s Richard Taylor is reward beyond the realm of his imagination. Sir Richard, 45, who has won the movie awards for his work with Lord of the Rings trilogy and King Kong, has been knighted in this year’s Queen’s Birthday honours list.
It comes after he was made an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2004, and was Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year in 2006 and 2007, among other honours. More..
