theonering_logo_2012-sm-color‘Tis pledge season here at TheOneRing.net!  You may have noticed the new ‘banner’ at the top of the homepage, letting you know about our fundraising drive.  Often at conventions, staffers get asked about how great it must be, being paid to attend conventions, organize line parties, go to film screenings, etc.  While those events are of course all fabulous, no one at TORn is ever paid a penny.  Everyone gives their time 100% volunteer, and in the past, whenever TORn has made any extra money, it’s been given away to charity.  We’re all about good times, good causes and good people. Screen Shot 2013-08-03 at 2.13.13 PMAfter seeing Geoff Boucher at Entertainment Weekly start a Twitter hashtag earlier this month called “Great Moments in Fake Hall H history” TORn staffer Justin wondered what a similar series based around The Hobbit animated movies of the ’70s would have looked like. lastunicornposterTime for our live webcast TORnTUESDAY! This week we are thrilled to have our friend join us for a special talk about Hobbits and Unicorns. Certainly Peter S. Beagle has stood at the intersection of many fandoms over his amazing career, including writing “The Lord of the Rings” screenplay in 1978 for Ralph Bakshi and then going on to write for Star Trek: The Next Generation during its heyday. Fans of THE LAST UNICORN will surely delight in his wit and playful manner, as Peter always brings out the lyrical found in every day things.

On the eve of a special event tomorrow at the Newport Beach Film Festival (see more here), Peter is going to screen the animated film based on his most famous book at USC tonight! We are going to sit and catch up with him a bit.

Time for our live webcast TORnTUESDAY! Every week we bring all the news and rumors from within (and without) Ringer fandom — this week we have dissent among the ranks. Better to say we have *many* different opinions on the leaked photo of Beorn, the shape-shifter who was given a not-so-convincing posterior thumbnail image on the back of a 2014 wall calendar that will soon hit store shelves….

Our reactions within the ranks of the TORn Staff have been across the board (both cold and hot). Watching how fans react on the Message Boards and on our Facebook timeline is fascinating!
