Peter Jackson just revealed a gorgeous new Hobbit poster on his facebook page which will be available to fans at Comic-Con. Check it out (at right) and, as always, check US out next week for all the latest and greatest Hobbit/Comic-Con news. You won’t want to miss our exclusive coverage!

Peter Jackson posted the following message on his facebook page a little while ago: “We made it! Shoot day 266 and the end of principal photography on The Hobbit. Thanks to our fantastic cast and crew for getting us this far, and to all of you for your support! Next stop, the cutting room. Oh, and Comic Con! Cheers, Peter J.”

As if our fingernails weren’t already bitten to the quick, now we start the long wait until the editing, soundtrack, etc. come together and the lights go down in theaters on December 14. Luckily, as PJ said, we have Comic-Con to look forward to, as well as new trailers and previews (please!), more production diaries (please! please!), the big premier in Wellington and all the publicity leading up to it. Be sure and stay tuned here at TORn for all the latest!

There is just one week until Comic Con 2012 starts with Preview Night on Wednesday, July 11. But aside from the TORn panel and WB’s panel for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, you may be wondering what else there is for a Hobbit fan to do. Popwatch has just revealed the cover for Entertainment Weekly’s forthcoming Comic-Con edition, and the lead feature is The Hobbit.

Their blurb says that the mag will feature “exclusive images and on-set scoops from the first movies — An Unexpected Journey — including interviews with Martin Freeman (Bilbo Baggins), Ian McKellen (Gandalf), and director Peter Jackson.”

Even better, EW has also posted a brand-new gallery of set and promotional photos that we think might reveal some nifty new details of what we can expect from the movie! Go check them out!

We suggest not visiting the gallery if you are SPOILER averse!

Choice quote from Martin Freeman: ‘I don’t think I’m particularly hobbit-y,’ says Freeman. ‘But I do like comfort and I’m quite private, so in those ways, maybe I am.’

The University of Illinois has just announced a topic for its Engaged Citizenship Common Experience Speakers Series. On July 17, 2012, it will present Sanctifying Myths: The currency of class, gender, and courage in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings & Peter Jackson’s films.

Dr Donna Bussell, PhD, will highlight Tolkien’s understanding of the spiritual and cultural work of mythology and manifestations of courage in major characters such as Frodo, Sam, Arwen and Aragorn.

Her talk also explores the importance of minor characters whose roles (and lower status) reveal much about the nature of courage in relation to class and gender in the story. Bussell concludes with a few thoughts on how these ideas are (or are not) treated in Jackson’s films, and the implications of these revisions for the transmission of Tolkien’s ideals.

Peter Jackson doubts he could make a film in 48 hours — especially ones as accomplished as those produced by film-makers in the V48Hours film competition.

“Every year there are great movies. You see people who are being incredibly inventive and I think, ‘there is no way I could make that in 48 hours’.”

“I’m full of admiration,” he says.
