TORN CouponSideshow Collectibles does not post coupons very often, and it is even less likely that they give coupons to fan sites like TORn – but we’ve managed to snag one for our collectors! From now until Sept 30th 2008, you can save $10 off the Frodo Baggins 12-inch Figure Exclusive, as well as $10 off the Samwise Gamgee 12-inch Figure Exclusive. The coupon code to use at checkout is ‘TORN’ (without the quotes) and you can use it on both figures, but not in the same order. So if you are looking to purchase both figures, place two separate orders and use the code ‘TORN’ for each one. This will save you $10 off each figure for a total of $20 in savings! If you are not familiar with this line of The Lord of the Rings figures, it can be argued that they are some of the most film accurate and detailed collectibles to ever be produced. Each figure is fully poseable and comes with a mountain of accessories. For a great comprehensive review of these figures, check out the one posted at MWCToys.com. Lake Town Volunteer Fire DepartmentIt looks like a lot of Ringers have been recruited into the ‘Lake Town Fire Department!’ Our first batch of LTFD was a success, but we still have approximately 25 XL and 2 Medium shirts available in stock. Once we’ve made a dent in the remaining inventory, we can go ahead and reprint this shirt in various styles, including the often requested female styles. And of course, we will be premiering a brand new shirt in the coming weeks, so stay tuned! If you enjoy visiting TORn, please help support the site with your t-shirt purchase. Thanks in advance! Hobbit COmmunityApparently, the current economic shadow affecting real estate may feel like the tentacles of Mordor reaching out across the country. A LOTR themed community in Bend, OR is currently feeling it as this article discusses.

The rise and fall of Bend’s real estate economy has resulted in foreclosure proceedings against The Shire, a village-themed concept in southeast Bend patterned after J.R.R. Tolkien’s “Lord of the Rings” series.

Shire Productions Stageplay Vivienne Wilkes, local amateur dramatist, and co-organiser of the annual Middle Earth Weekends at Sarehole Mill, is the author of the recently published children’s book called “Tales of Moseley Bog – The Voles of Old”. Moseley Bog has been the setting for several drama excerpts from Tolkien’s work at the above weekend and is a beautiful and unspoilt nature reserve nestling in the suburbs of Birmingham within walking distance of Sarehole Mill, the inspiration for the Mill in Hobbiton. J.R.R. Tolkien and his brother Hilary knew it well when they played there as children but today it is still a relatively unknown gem even to those living nearby. Within this atmospheric, natural woodland mini-mammals and wildlife dwell, their struggle for existence largely unnoticed by most visitors. Within the book, Moseley Bog is the Old World setting for the life and death adventures of Foxtail and Rye, a couple of young field voles, on a quest to find the mythical water voles of legend. Further details of the book can be found on-line via the website: www.shireproductions.co.uk.
