Hobbit cast posterWe already know that the World Premiere for “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies” will be in London on December 1, and there was news several months back for the North American premiere in New York on December 8. Recently we learned that several of the Kiwi Dwarf actors will be at the Los Angeles premiere, but no further details were given at the time, until now. Maybe. A nearly blind Raven visited earlier today and croaked out some news that the Hollywood premiere will be on December 9 at the TCL Chinese theater on Hollywood Blvd. There has not been an official press release yet, so please consider this a rumor, a strong rumor, but a rumor nonetheless. After all, Roac is very old and nearly blind, but he’s never given bad advice before.

BotFATrailer82 It’s been a long journey since our very first TORn staff frame-by-frame trailer analysis — all the way back in 2001 when The Fellowship of the Ring was about to debut on the silver screen. Now it’s the very last one — the frame-by-frame for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.

It’s been a lot of fun for us all, and we hope you’ve enjoyed the reading as much as we’ve enjoyed the analysing and speculating.

So without further ado except for the compulsory movie spoiler warning… Continue reading “TORn’s final frame-by-frame analysis: The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies main trailer”

Going to the World Premiere of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies? Planning to camp out to secure a good spot at the red carpet? Fancy meeting with some fellow fans beforehand?

TORn can help you with that last one! We’re holding a ‘pub moot’ in London on Sunday 30th November, the night before the World Premiere. We’ll be gathering with fellow fans at Waxy O’Connor’s, near Leicester Square. The good folks at Waxy’s are reserving the ‘Cottage Bar’ as a private space for us – our own cosy hobbit hole complete with fireplace!  We’ll be there from 6pm to closing.

waxy's LondonNo need to buy tickets for this event – just show up on the night! Waxy’s have an excellent menu, so you can buy dinner there – and of course their well-stocked bar will be open. This is a simple event – basically just show up to the pub, buy yourself a pint and chat with fellow fans!

We will have a couple of prizes for the best costumes, so you are warmly encouraged to show up in Middle-earth finery!

And you never know who may show up to a TORn party…  Hope to see you there – The Cottage Bar at Waxy O’Connor’s, 14-16 Rupert Street, 6pm, Sunday 30th November.

[Please note: because of pub licensing laws, you must be 18 or over to attend this event. Sorry!]

_MG_0928_smallYou can smell it in the air and see it in the water and there is just no disputing that Queenstown, New Zealand is a special place. The Hobbit Fan Contest winners left some pretty amazing experiences at Rotorua and especially Hobbiton Movie Set to climb on a plane at head to the south island of the two-island nation.

More than one fan wondered aloud, “How can they rest of the trip possibly live up to this?” And then Queenstown worked its charms. The area is heavily saturated with Lord of the Rings and Hobbit film lore. And while there was always tourism for the majestic Southern Alps and the Remarkables set around a ski resort town that also happens to be the gateway of the world, there will long be an impact there from the six episodes of Middle-earth Peter Jackson delivered. Barliman's Chat A little earlier today, Hall of Fire took a detour into movie-land to pull apart the brand-new trailer for The Battle of the Five Armies.

If you missed the discussion, or found the messy first hour very frustrating (sorry about that, it was unusually difficult to direct discussion), then here’s the log from the final two once we got a system going and started analysing what Peter Jackson put in front of us scene by scene.

Hope you find it illuminating.

Oh, and usual warning for movie spoilers over the page!
