Thanks to Pioneer for this clip from The Christchurch Press: The top of the Takaka Hill and northwestern Golden Bay are set to become Hobbit country, with filming of Sir Peter Jackson’s anticipated two-part movie expected in the Tasman district at the end of this year. Tasman District Council communications spokesman Chris Choat said the production company for The Hobbit, 3 Foot 7, approached the council last week about filming in the district in December. Choat said the company had yet to lodge any official land-use consent applications.

From [NZHEARLD] : Master fimmaker James Cameron will return to New Zealand to snoop around the set of The Hobbit as director Peter Jackson follows in his footsteps to create a blockbuster 3D film.
Jackson let slip to Australian film magazine Empire that Cameron would visit the set in September.
It’s been seven months since Cameron was last in New Zealand to celebrate his award-winning film Avatar. He announced in 2010 he would return here to film two Avatar sequels but since decided to take the action to California. [Read more]

Stuff.co.nz reports: Sir Peter Jackson’s movie The Hobbit is set to be filmed in Nelson at the end of this year, with hundreds of crew members expected to stay in the region.
Local moteliers have been contacted by the film’s production company, 3 Foot 7, which is looking for accommodation for about 400 to 500 people in November and December.
Motel Association of New Zealand Nelson’s John Gilbertson, who owns Arrow Motels on Golf Rd, confirmed some of the association’s members were holding rooms for such a group.
Filming for the anticipated two-part movie resumed last week and will continue until December. [Read More]
