As you know, over the next couple of weeks or so TORn is conducting a pledge drive to raise funds and keep our servers running. But, as you might know, we also have some very exciting auctions going on over at ebay.
We have some fabulous, exclusive pieces up for grabs – including some things which, usually, money can’t buy! Here’s just three that might tickle your fancy:
NIB The Bridge Direct Goblin King Thorin Oakenshield Action Figure
This Battle Pack of The Goblin King with Thorin Oakenshield, released in 2012, has authentic detail from the Movie – The Hobbit: The Unexpected Journey. Each Figure contains up to 10 points of articulation and replicates the facial features, clothing, weapons and accessories of the character. A great addition to any action-figure collection!
NIB Boromir Exclusive Edition Polystone Statue LotR by Sideshow
From the Sideshow Collectibles’ line of ‘The Lord of the Rings’, this statue of Boromir captures the heroic moment when he claims victory for Gondor! Introduced in 2011 and quickly sold out, this is the first Lord of the Rings statue to show the detail of Gondorian armor. This piece is individually painted and finished.
This item is BRAND NEW in the original manufacturer’s box with all the original accessories.
NIB Royal Selangor Pewter Galadriel Goblet Lord of the Rings
Galadriel, Elven Lady of Light, rests her face on the palm of her hand which functions as the stem of the goblet. Galadriel is delicately decorated with an onyx gem on her brow, her Ring on her forefinger and a bangle on her elegant arm. Inspired by JRR Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings, this stunning work of pewter art measures 8 in (20 cm) in height.
This item is BRAND NEW in the original manufacturer’s box with an unbroken RS certificate seal.
As you are well aware, TheOneRing.net is a 100% volunteer not for profit website. We’ve been fan-powered for nearly 14 years, and are looking to keep it that way. From Aug 24 through Sept 4th, we are holding our first annual pledge drive, appropriately named, ‘Light the Beacons: TheOneRing.net’s Fellowship Fundraiser.’ If you believe your experience with TheOneRing.net brings value to your personal Tolkien experience, please consider a donation. We’ve set-up a variety of pledge levels, each with a unique item or opportunity.
Over at HFRmovies.com a talented fellow named Michael Sanders has used some nifty video trickery to interpolate what the Desolation of Smaug trailer might look like at 48 frames per second. It’s a very interesting experiment.
Several TORn staff have compared the Sanders’ 48fps interpolation and the 24fps rendition initially released by Warner Bros. side-by-side — and we feel that even Sanders’ “amateur” (and that word seems unfair for something that looks so good) interpolation reduces picture blurring blurring from camera panning and fast movement. Time for our live webcast TORnTUESDAY! This week we are thrilled to have our friend join us for a special talk about Hobbits and Unicorns. Certainly Peter S. Beagle has stood at the intersection of many fandoms over his amazing career, including writing “The Lord of the Rings” screenplay in 1978 for Ralph Bakshi and then going on to write for Star Trek: The Next Generation during its heyday. Fans of THE LAST UNICORN will surely delight in his wit and playful manner, as Peter always brings out the lyrical found in every day things.
On the eve of a special event tomorrow at the Newport Beach Film Festival (see more here), Peter is going to screen the animated film based on his most famous book at USC tonight! We are going to sit and catch up with him a bit.
We launch TORn TUESDAY every week at 5:00PM Pacific: brought to you by host Clifford “Quickbeam” Broadway and producer Justin “That There is a Bear” Sewell — Our innovative live show includes worldwide fans who join us on the Live Event page with a built-in IRC chat (affectionately known as Barliman’s Chat room). Be part of the fun and mischief every week as we broadcast *live* from Meltdown Comics in the heart of Hollywood, U.S.A.!
And yes our YouTube channel will have this archived later. You can find us on www.youtube.com/the1nering
