Adam_BrownOur favourite scribe dwarf Ori, aka actor Adam Brown, is appearing on stage in London! Brown will be in Made by Brick’s production of Saxon Court, which runs at the Southwark Playhouse from November 19th to December 13th.

The theatre’s website describes the play as ‘a razor sharp satire to darken your Christmas’ – and warns that ‘this production contains graphic language and scenes of violence (as any good Christmas party should)!’ It sounds like the perfect comedic antidote to festive glitter – watch a trailer here:

THE HOBBIT: THE BATTLE OF FIVE ARMIES Tickets for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies went on sale Friday, and it came with a bit of confusion. There are multiple screenings in multiple theaters with all sorts of strange terms attached to them: HFR, Atmos, IMAX, etc. to name a few – to say nothing of whether or not it’s in 3D.

With ticket prices the way they are, you may be a little hesitant to push the “purchase” button on your ticket order in case you mistakenly selected a show in a format you don’t want to see.

Or you may have not even gotten that far, and simply gone cross-eyed at all of the acronyms and strange terms on Fandango, MovieTickets, or whichever portal you prefer, silently crying, “WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN?!” Your local theaters may not have all of these flavors, and thus your choice is much easier. But many of you may have hit a wall of indecision. Continue reading “HFR, IMAX, 3D, Atmos, D-Box. Making sense of all the theatrical formats for The Battle of the Five Armies”

In our latest Library piece, TORn reader and Tolkien Italian Network member Gabriele Marconi explores how a 2 minute video doesn’t pay full tribute to a fans love of Tolkien.

Gabriele told TORn,  “The point is  that a 2-minute time video could not contain nor the smallest part of the reasons why Tolkien is so strongly related to Italy and the Alps, the mountains we know so well (even if Tolkien went through them only from the Swiss side).

That is also why Italy is Middle-Earth, or at least a part of it, “Gondor“, as the very one John Ronald used to say. So I choosed to speak about the famous postcards of Der Berggeist and used them as a spark to tell more about the relations between Tolkien, Switzerland and Italy. Not only the postcards: every opened issue has been deepened in the shape of Q&A”

The article is translated from Italian to English by Greta Bertani.

CCT-RING-11XX-12.jpgA couple months ago we announced the big LOTR trilogy screening announcement for the Lincoln Center in NY where a full symphony and choir accompanies each film in a live, soundtrack performance. Having seen the first two, this is a ‘not to be missed’ event, unless you were denied tickets when the ROTK sold out.

Well, never fear, the Symphony Silicon Valley has picked up the quest and will be running two cycles of the trilogy in San Jose in mid-April. Run, do not walk and get yourself your tickets for this amazing performance of the much loved set of films and musical scores. You can read all the details HERE.
