We’ve been inundated with question about how to find out what theater in what cities will be carrying the Hobbit extended edition trilogy showings, now all but confirmed to be scheduled during the first two weeks of October. So far, we’ve only had confirmations from readers in U.S. locations. But, it turns out there might be an easy way to find out more.
TORn staffer Justin recommends doing a search at movietickets.com at this link. The current link is designed to search for movie times for BOFTA, but can easily be re-set for the other two movies. Remember that not all theaters in your area may have it on their schedule yet, so until we get more definitive official information, don’t despair just yet if your local theater doesn’t appear on the search. Another thing to note is, when I did a search on my area, my local theater’s date for BOFTA was Wednesday, October 14, not the 13th as we reported yesterday. So, it appears that each theater may have some leeway as to when it’s going to be shown, or the dates aren’t set in stone yet.
Unfortunately, this particular search is designed to enter a U.S. zip code. But don’t despair just yet either if you’re not a U.S. resident. There are undoubtedly similar movie search sites for the country you live in. If you find them, and more importantly, if you find showings in locations outside the U.S., let us know.
Regarding questions as to whether we’ll be publishing a list of all the theaters that will be showing the trilogy, the answer is: no. With today’s search engine’s, and cell phones, it’s easy enough to do your own search or call your local theater, not to mention that such a list could be hundreds of theaters long and we’d rather spend our time bringing you new articles, and updates to articles, like this one.

According to a bulletin published today by the Motion Picture Association of America Classification and Rating Administration, the extended edition of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies will carry an “R” rating for “some violence.” Of course, it’s no news flash that the movie contains violence. The theatrical version’s PG-13 rating came with an advisory for “extended sequences of intense fantasy action violence, and frightening images.” So, it’s intriguing to imagine what, exactly, in the EE bridged that gap, especially with only “some violence” to go by. Possible EE spoilers ahead!

Tubine, Inc. has announced that they will be shutting down 19 of the servers that host their Lord of the Rings Online interactive game. The worlds that are currently hosted on those servers will be consolidated to the remaining ten worlds. Characters that exist in one of the worlds being shut down will be able to transfer to one of the remaining worlds free of charge. According to gamer Lady_Celebrian:
“We’re losing 10 US and 9 EU servers. In the U.S.: Elendilmir, Riddermark, Firefoot, Nimrodel, Windfola, Imladris, Dwarrowdelf, Silverlode, Vilya, and Meneldor. In the European Union: Estel, Gilrain, Eldar, Anduin, Morthond, Maiar, Vanya, Withywindle, and Snowbourn. Servers remaining are: U.S.: Arkenstone, Crickhollow, Landroval, Gladden, and Brandywine. European Unoin: Belegaer, Gwaihir, Sirannon, Laurelin, and Evernight.”

Clear your calendars this coming October! Extended editions of all three Hobbit movies are set to show in theaters over three nights and, of course, you’ll want to see them all! From FarAwayEntertainment.com:
Fathom Events and Warner Bros. are partnering to present the extended editions of all three Hobbit movies. Shown over three nights, the epic Peter Jackson trilogy will be the first time the extended editions have ever been released in theatres. Also included will be an exclusive introduction by director Peter Jackson. First night showing starts Monday, October 5th, 2015 at 7:30pm local. Tickets will be regular admission prices for each movie.
It’s not clear whether the three nights will be consecutive nights, as the AMC Theater website has The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies billed for October 13th. It’s also not clear if other theater chains other than AMC will be carrying the movies. Look for updates here as we get them and if you hear anything from your local theaters, let us know at spymaster@theonering.net.
Update-2 (8/4/15): the Celebration Cinema chain (mid-Michigan) has confirmed that they’ll be participating, but no dates are available yet. We’ve also had confirmation that the AMC 14 in Tustin, CA will be showing all three movies on the following schedule:

The Hobbit: DOS Extended – Wednesday, October 7th, 2015 @ 7:30 PM
