In both Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit, Gandalf plays a key role in deciding the future of Middle-earth. But is he a commander? A leader? A mentor? A warrior?

These are some of the questions we’ll explore in Hall of Fire tomorrow as we explore the topic: Gandalf: wizard, warrior, white rider.

What does his wandering nature say about his character? That he befriends Hobbits (seemingly insignificant in the greater battle)? That being overlooked for leadership of the White Council bothers him not at all?

That he puts himself in mortal jeopardy to save others? And that he can see that the solution to large problems (Saruron, Smaug) lie not in mighty armies or the feats of elven lords, but in the actions of shire-folk arising to shake the towers and counsels of the great? The Swedish Hobbit Blogger writes: Recently I noticed that the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet had conducted a long interview with Mikael Persbrandt, who will be portraying Beorn in The Hobbit, and, in this interview, they asked him about his current career in big budget productions like the upcoming The Hobbit-films and a film based on the fictional spy-character of Carl Hamilton. And this is what he said about The Hobbit and New Zealand, translated to the best of my ability of course.

”When I, during the first day, is hoisted up to the ceiling in the west King Kong Studio in Wellington I know what to do, even if it is a bit awkward and difficult to begin with a difficult torture scene. I knew and could even suggest things.” Continue reading “Mikael Persbrandt Talks Hobbit”

From mcvuk.com: Warner Bros Australia has confirmed that Lord of the Rings: War in the North has received an Australian classification and local pricing. The co-op action RPG has been rated MA15+, avoiding the ban hammer, and will be released with an RRP of AUD$79.95 for PS3 and 360, and $69.95 for PC. The title is releasing on 2nd November, and would have been competing with the largest titles of a massive Christmas lineup, and is now looking at edging out the competition with an aggressive price point.
