According to the Oxford English Dictionary an ‘icon’ is a person regarded as “a representative symbol” or “worthy of veneration”.
It’s a definition – according to the Arts Foundation – fitting for Sir Peter Jackson.
He’s famed for his cameos on the big screen, but Sir Peter admits the last place he’s comfortable is on camera – or receiving an Arts Icon award.
“I always imagine artists to be those people who work alone, by themselves, producing amazing things and I guess I always feel a little bit of a cheat because I work with such a big team of people.”

Peter Jackson has always understood how the popularization of the internet changed film. Since the beginning of his pre-production on The Lord of the Rings he was available to fans, sometimes against the wishes of studios, as he included potential ticket buyers into the process of film production.

Peter Jackson has posted a new note on his Facebook page today that confirms the casting of Luke Evans as Bard, as well as Benedict Cumberbatch as the voice of Smaug. He has also announced two new cast members. Barry Humphries will be portraying a completely CGI Goblin King…and…wait for it…the biggest news is LOST star Evangeline Lilly will be Tauriel. PJ describes Tauriel as a Woodland Elf, ‘Her name means ‘daughter of Mirkwood’ and, beyond that, we must leave you guessing!
