You can enjoy this gigantic remake in high definition this January. King Kong will be released on Blu-ray on January 20. We don’t have any cover art or pricing details at this time, but we’ll surely update this story as soon as we have more information. The disc will include both the theatrical and extended versions of the movie. Beagle wrote the screenplay for the 1978 animated version of THE LORD OF THE RINGS, but for various reasons we’ve never offered the DVD for sale. That seemed kind of silly, so a few weeks ago we decided to order some…and discovered that Warner Brothers Home Video has discontinued the title. thedigitalbits.com is reporting that Warner Bros. has revealed, in a promotional insert packed with the new Poltergeist Blu-ray Disc, that it’s currently working on a Blu-ray version of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. They also mention that their sources say all three films are planned for a 2009 Blu-ray treatment. Take a look at the insert here.
After spending Bilbo and Frodo’s birthday week riddling, Doug Adams announced what the ‘other major release’ his book will be tied to: LOTR: THE RARITIES ARCHIVE, scheduled for release in the fourth quarter 2009. There will be substantially more rarities material released. Doug’s initial project was limited in terms of budget (buying rights from Warner Brothers). WBR owns all this so licensing rights is not an issue. Doug wrote:
