Ostadan writes: This is from Peter Beagle’s newsletter, TORN people might want to know: Peter S. Beagle wrote the screenplay for the 1978 animated version of THE LORD OF THE RINGS, but for various reasons we’ve never offered the DVD for sale. That seemed kind of silly, so a few weeks ago we decided to order some…and discovered that Warner Brothers Home Video has discontinued the title. Our distributor told us that WB wasn’t sure how many were still in the warehouse. We told them we’d take everything they had. They shipped us 99 copies. Continue reading “Peter S. thedigitalbits.com is reporting that Warner Bros. has revealed, in a promotional insert packed with the new Poltergeist Blu-ray Disc, that it’s currently working on a Blu-ray version of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. They also mention that their sources say all three films are planned for a 2009 Blu-ray treatment. Take a look at the insert here.
After spending Bilbo and Frodo’s birthday week riddling, Doug Adams announced what the ‘other major release’ his book will be tied to: LOTR: THE RARITIES ARCHIVE, scheduled for release in the fourth quarter 2009. Mark writes: Just want to say a big thank you to theonering.net for posting the article about John Howe attending the Edinburgh Book Festival. I was lucky enough to attend the event last night, at which Mr. Howe spoke about his work illustrating for various projects, including of course The Trilogy. The interviewer did ask if he was involved in The Hobbit films in any way, but he only said (understandably) that it was too early to discuss it. We saw a slide show of concept art from the Trilogy in which there were pictures yet unseen in even the “Art of…” book series or DVD special features. The talk was fascinating, and Mr. Howe was not only very open and in-depth about his work, but had a great sense of humour too. A few members of the audience had the opportunity to ask questions as well, and there was even time for autographs and photos at the end. Overall, it was just a great night! Any more posts for events happening in Scotland or in the UK are most welcome!
