Hobbit director, Guillermo del Toro, has left the following message on our message boards:
In a few days there will be a BIG announcement (big for me, at least) that is not-Hobbit related. BEFORE anyone starts wondering the usual “how does he have time?, Is this detracting form The Hobbit?” etc It is a project that started over 2 years ago, before The Hobbit and will render fruits in the mid-term, not intruding on my Hobbit duties. Rest assured. The key letter is “D”

Sounds intriguing! We’ll update the site as soon as we know what the special announcement may be. In the meantime, take some time and join TheOneRing.net message board community! [GDT Post]
From ifmagazine.com: Peter Jackson has a knack for picking winners. And he did so with Neill Blomkamp and DISTRICT 9, the awesome aliens land on Earth and are forced into a slum movie. THE LORD OF THE RINGS director was only a producer in this film but you can see his imprint and his vision of things being larger than life and full of consequences outside of what we are just seeing on the surface are there. The film too has been a smashing success finding its way to the hearts of many movie-goers through word-of-mouth and some simply amazing visuals shown in the many trailers. More..
Elijah Wood visited The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien to promote his new film ‘9’ and spoke a bit about Comic-Con, the ‘Hobbits,’ Yo Gabba Gabba, being mistaken with Harry Potter and more! (Thanks to Ringer Lossefalme for the heads up. A note to parents, some of the advertising on Hulu.com is a bit post-10pm programming, if you know what we mean!)
ATLANTA – Enthusiasm is building for the two-movie adaptation of “The Hobbit” and if you don’t mind me saying, it can be felt in the air and smelt in the water. One of the first attractions of the day (after Spock and Kirk of course) was TORn’s own trio of staffers Deej, Greendragon ad MrCere, dishing about all the recent developments on “The Hobbit.”
Using quotes from TORn’s own interviews, TORn’s message boards (Guillermo del Toro) and national media, the trio tried to get everybody up to date on the soon-to-be greenlit (we hope/think) film. Sending along greetings was Guillermo del Toro via video and three members of the Weta team that will be working on the film. Continue reading “DragonCon: Day 1”
Friday is the official kick-off to the annual sci-fi and fantasy fest known as DragonCon in Atlanta and as it has for the last decade, TheOneRing.net will be there to celebrate everything Tolkien and bring you the goings-on to the best of our ability. We will have new Lake Town Archery Club shirts as well as the continuation of the themed shirts introduced at Comic-Con this year. TORn also has a panel about the very latest news on “The Hobbit,” on Friday morning and Sunday. As fast as news is changing, they may even be completely different.
The latest DCon news is Brad Dourif(television and film legend and of course Grima Wormtongue) has just been announced as a late addition-guest to the four-day convention. He will join Craig Parker and Peter Beagle as this year’s celebrities that add to a whole four-day track of Tolkien programming. Continue reading “DragonCon: Dourif! Parker! TORn!”
The Tolkien Estate and New Line Cinema have reached a tentative settlement in the court battle over money from “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy of films that have grossed around $3 billion. TheOneRing.net message board member Voronwë_the_Faithful has written to give us the absolute world-wide scoop. He managed to mine a great nugget of information from the L.A. Superior Court and has written the following:
“A tentative settlement has been reached in the case. The parties have filed a stipulation that explicitly states that ‘the parties have entered into a binding term sheet settling this matter, which term sheet is subject to certain necessary ratifications, which may take up to several weeks to obtain.’
