A few minor snippets about The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies out of Denver Comic Con last weekend.
Sylvester McCoy, who is not travelling to San Diego Comic Con, indicated that he’ll be in London around July 18 for pickup work. It seems as though Philippa Boyens will be there to directing the additional dialogue recording with Peter Jackson overseeing things from New Zealand.
We also hear Jackson may schedule a trip to London around the time of San Diego Comic Con. Continue reading “Denver Comic-Con news: Sylvester McCoy set for July pickups”

Depending on where you stand on these Hobbit films the character Azog the Defiler can be a point of excitement or irritation. For me I have to say I do like the character as a whole, so that’s why when Gentle Giant put the Azog Mini-Bust up for order I had to get it. As you’ll hear me say in the review I truly believe this bust to be one of their best items ever. As far as collectibles go this one is quite affordable coming in at $85 and he has an edition size of just 780 pieces, which is quite small in high-end collectibles.

Ringer Matt sent us this little snippet from a chat he had with Manu Bennett at the Sydney Supanova last weekend.
“I was able to have a quick chat with Manu Bennett (AKA Azog) whilst I was getting his signature. He said he had not completed filming for Azog yet on the final film and he was set to return to New Zealand next month to finish up.”

I’ve been reluctant to weigh in on the “when is the trailer coming?” apart from putting in the occasional “soon”. But it kinda feels as though there’s a mob of very hungry dwarves piling up at the front door right now (and me without so much as a seedcake in the pantry), so we recently put out some feelers to try and gauge what’s going on.
And, honestly, no-one knows for certain right now. That’s what it boils down to — it will come when it appears and as soon as we know, you’ll know. Continue reading “Some clarification of the Hobbit trailer situation”

Writers can only convey their thoughts with words. Filmakers (lucky them) have another tool in the box, a visual one.
Camera angles, juxtaposition, lighting can all be used to convey things that are, perhaps, not obvious at first glance. Here, Ringer DwellerInDale has compiled a brief list of just nine such visual metaphors from he Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.

It’s no secret that news about The Hobbit: the Battle of the Five Armies has been thin on the ground lately.
One tiny nugget of news that popped up mid-week was the release of an official synopsis in German that did little but confirm things that we already knew. So, yes, Ian Holm, Christopher Lee, Hugo Weaving and Cate Blanchett will be reprising their roles in the final film. If you’re keen to have a read, head to Herr-der-Ringe for the German original, or check out the English translation on our messageboards courtesy of Ringer Ringer Arannir.
