In an article talking about Sam Raimi’s next film, ‘Drag Me to Hell,’ Variety seems to imply, with some authority, that Sam Raimi is going to be taking the reigns of ‘The Hobbit’ after that films completion:
“After “Drag Me to Hell,” Raimi is expected to go right back up the mountaintop and take the helm of “The Hobbit” films for New Line and MGM now that Peter Jackson has made it clear he won’t direct.”
Raimi has long been rumored to be in line to direct ‘The Hobbit’ films, but this ‘expectation’ from an industry publication seems to put some weight behind it. [Read Full Article]

EW.com has asked Guillermo del Toro the all important ‘Hobbit’ question, and his answer has this ‘del Toro’ fan pretty excited: “You know, I think I’ve been abroad too long. I’ve heard some rumblings, but nothing official. I don’t want to think about it because it’s such an eventuality. It’s the only Tolkien book I read. I tried my best to read Lord of the Rings, the trilogy. I could not. I could not. They were very dense. And then one day, I bought The Hobbit. I read it and I loved it. So it would be a privilege. But listen, I wish I knew. At this stage, after Hellboy II, I’m unemployed. [Laughs]”

Contrary to previous reports location scouting is currently *not* taking place anywhere, including New Zealand. Peter’s camp is firmly in ‘Lovely Bones’ completion stage, then a short summer holiday before any work will begin on ‘The Hobbit’. More to some soon!

When the staff here at TheOneRing.net first heard the rumors that the Hobbit film deal would most likely be for two movies, it fueled a lot of speculation. Most of the speculation centers on the idea that the second movie will be a bridge between The Hobbit and Fellowship of the Ring.
