One of the show-stopping pieces from Comic-Con 2017 has finally made it’s way to pre-order. The absolutely amazing Thranduil on Elk, sculpted by Lindsey Crummett, is ready to be ordered and added to our collections. This is Weta’s largest statue ever coming in at 22″ tall, and as detailed a piece you’re going to find. Thranduil has a price tag of $999 and an edition size of only 750 pieces world-wide. Our friends at Weta Workshop have also added a long awaited feature to ordering pieces like Thranduil: for certain pre-order items Weta will now be offering payment plans! Now, we as fans can fit even more goodies into our budgets. However, it will also cause items sell out more quickly, so fans won’t want to hesitate too long and risk things selling out.

New York Comic Con is almost here! Alas, TheOneRing.net won’t be there this year; for a number of reasons, we aren’t able to have our usual booth and party at this NYCC. But don’t despair – it doesn’t mean we’ll never be back! We are hoping to see Ringers take Manhattan again next year – so mark your calendars to moot in the Big Apple 2018.

Meanwhile – for those of you who will be in New York City this coming weekend, there is an event for Middle-earth fans! Our friends at Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and Monolith Productions are celebrating the Middle-earth: Shadow of War game with a special gathering on Thursday 5th October. Full details can be found here.  We’re told there will be food, drinks, giveaways and more! Even if you’re not a gamer, it seems like a great chance to hang out with some fellow Middle-earth fans. Limited capacity so get there early!

And if you are at New York Comic Con this weekend, please do share with us any Tolkien related sightings or fun. Have a great time!

Updated 11/3/17 – From time-to-time you, the fans, email TORn about events of interest to other fans of J.R.R. Tolkien and/or Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit movies. As a service to our readers, we decided to created this new feature: a listing of upcoming events to keep everyone apprised of where they can hook-up and commiserate with other fans, learn a thing or two, or just plain enjoy the fandom that we’ve all come to know and love.  From Howard Shore concerts in Paris, to fan get-togethers in Kentucky and South Carolina, to exhibitions in Staffordshire, U.K., it’s all listed here! The list will be updated periodically as past events drop off and future events are added. If you know of an upcoming event, please let us know either in the comments section of this story, or by emailing spymaster@theonering.net. – TORn, ‘Together in Tolkien’

Next Friday, September 22, is both Bilbo and Frodo’s birthday, and has been proclaimed by the Tolkien Society as Hobbit Day. Many fans of J.R.R. Tolkien, including TORn, are planning parties of special magnificence for the auspicious day, and Weta Workshop is front-and-center, ready to help put on the best party ever with their Hobbit Day Party Business Bundle. As they so aptly put it at Weta: “There ain’t no party like a Hobbit Day party because a Hobbit Day party DON’T STOP!”

The Party Business Bundle contains the following items every Hobbit-loving collector will drool over (but not on the birthday cake, please!):

  • Bilbo’s Pipe
  • The One Ring (film-accurate size 11)
  • Bilbo’s Portrait
  • Bilbo’s Button
  • Hobbit Scarf by Stansborough
  • One Ring Keyring
  • No Admittance Sign
  • The Unexpected Journey Art Print
  • Hobbit Feet magnet

The package is priced at $229 USD, but contains $368 USD worth of everything you need to enjoy Bilbo and Frodo’s birthday long after September 22 has come and gone. Speaking of September 22 coming and going, the package is available through September 29 at midnight New Zealand time, a full week after the big birthday event.  You can place your order here.

We just found out that the Changeling Artist Collective is currently having a ‘There and Back Again’ online auction of Tolkien-inspired artwork. The Collective is comprised of fantasy artists, many of whom specialize in all things Tolkien, from Hobbits to dragons to landscapes. A wide variety of other fantasy-related artwork can also be found there. From their home page: “Inhabiting the more mysterious nooks of the world, the Changeling Artist Collective is comprised of creators and conjurers. We channel our abilities to weave visual tales that are sure to delight your eyeballs.”

Check out the auction site here. The thing is, the auction ends at noon EST tomorrow, September 15. Yes, we know it’s late notice, but we just found out about it ourselves, and better late then never, right? The good news is, if you don’t read this in time to bid, many of the artist’s works will still be available, and there are other auctions scheduled for the future.

Our friends at Weta Workshop have an awesome new goodie called the Weta Collecta. This item contains a collectible from all the ranges of collectibles that Weta makes: t-shirt, and various mystery items. The coolest part about the box is that it’s a key to a chance to win a trip to Middle-earth. That’s right! By buying this box, getting some very cool items, and entering the contest attached to the box, you may well end up in Middle-earth. Before October 31, snap a photo with all your Collecta goodies, upload it to Collecta Contest, and you and a friend could be flying to Wellington, New Zealand, from anywhere in the world!
