We’re happy to say that our Founder’s Day 2011 celebration has been a resounding success (see Founder’s Day story below)! Of the many wonderful contributions of the day, one stood out as especially representative of the camaraderie that many of us share as fans of J.R.R. Tolkien, Peter Jackson’s movies, and fantasy in general.  Discussion board member One Ringer put together a wonderful retrospective of fan gatherings to mark the special day. In One Ringer’s own words:

“After twelves years of constant coverage of everything Tolkien, TheOneRing.net stands as the top site for a social gathering for fans of the late Professor and his work. In honor of Founders Day comes the One Slideshow to (hopefully) show many of the great memories that the members of TORn have had in the past years. Click on the link below and watch at your desired video quality. I hope you enjoy.” — One Ringer

We definitely *will* enjoy, One Ringer! Click on the link below to see this wonderful video.

TORn Founder\’s Day Video

When TheOneRing.net marked its 10th anniversary in 2009, we celebrated in style. In fact, we had such a good time, we decided to continue to celebrate every year on April 26, the date that TORn was established.

Founder’s Day is TheOneRing.net’s official holiday, filled with the best that a virtual party can offer.  If your new(er) to the site, it’s a chance to find out about the roots of the site, about the four founders, and/or just explore the place (hint: start with the links on the left of the page).

If you’ve been around for a bit, it’s a great day to reminisce, tell war stories, and reflect on all the adventures and friendships that have been forged over the years. There will be new things popping up all day on several of the message boards — so don’t be shy! Hunt around, find a party game you like, or a conversation you enjoy, and dive in! Or, join us in Barliman’s chat room.

Here’s to our Founders (from left to right below: Corvar, Xoanon, Tehanu, Calisuri). Happy 12th TORNiversary, TheOneRing.net!

Sir Peter Enjoys Airshow in Blenheim

Aviation nut Sir Peter Jackson took a break from filming his Lord of the Rings prequel to show off his toys at the 10th anniversary of the Classic Fighters Airshow in Blenheim yesterday.

Jackson is a regular spectator at the fundraiser for the Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre, and chief executive Jane Orphan said he had once again been “exceptionally generous”, putting his private collection on display at the centre’s museum.

On any given day, there could be many Tolkien related events taking place somewhere on this great big planet of ours. Sometimes we get to post about those events on our homepage, sometimes we don’t. To make things a bit easier for Ringers worldwide to keep track of upcoming (and past) events, we are announcing TheOneRing.net Event Calendar! This new calendar, maintained using Google Calendar, not only allows you to quickly and easily look through upcoming events, it allows you to subscribe and even add events to your own personal calendar. That way you can set up you own reminders and alerts ’til your hearts content! And best yet, if you have an event coming up, we do take submissions to be included on the calendar. Our goal is to make this the most comprehensive calendar for Tolkien fans worldwide, and with your help, we hope to reach that goal! Follow the link to view the upcoming events.
