We just ran across this video this morning and thought we’d share! Musician Colin Rudd released ‘Songs of J.R.R. Tolkien’ back in 2001, and included on that release is a pretty impressive rendition of the ‘Lament for Boromir.’ We’re embedding the video below for your viewing pleasure. You can also click on the link to view all of Colin’s Tolkien related videos. [YouTube]

Hi! My friend Melissa, whose family introduced me to all things Tolkien, made a birthday cake for her 14 year old brother Jonathan. He requested that it be the Rohan Longhouse on top of Edoras. Melissa is not formally trained as a cake artist & I think she did an awesome job! Thanks! ~Rachel
Rachel, we agree! We’ve seen some impressive creations in our 10 years online, and this one definitely takes the…err…cake? Jonathan has a great Mom! Click on the image to see a larger version.
Each year TheOneRing.net makes its convention shirts available for those not able to attend DragonCon and Comic-Con but Monday these shirts will become unavailable, probably forever. Quantities in some sizes are already very limited but we must soon take the offer off the website and send the remaining shirts to Atlanta Georgia for DragonCon 2010 where TORn will participate in the Tolkien Track. We get e-mails all the time asking about the availability of older TORn shirts and we are always sorry to inform people that they just aren’t available anywhere, ever after we run out. Consider this your last chance to get these exclusive shirts. U.S. residents click here to see the shirts and place your orders. (Prices and shipping costs are for U.S. customers only.)
If you happened to be trolling around Flickr recently, you may have run across this image of a ship named ‘Loth Lorien’ from photographer Henry Oude Egberink. According to to the description:
With 42 m length LOTH LORIEN belongs more to the smaller ships. As J.R. TOLKIEN she was restored by Jaap van der Rest; the ship now can take up to 34 trainees. LOTH LORIEN is sailing usually in the North and Baltic Sea. She offers trips for single bookers and is available for complete charter and events.

LORD Of The Rings star Billy Boyd has revealed he never made a penny from appearing in the blockbuster movie.
The Scot played a hairy-footed hobbit in the Tolkien trilogy which smashed box office records around the world.
But despite becoming a household name by appearing in the films, he says the role failed to boost his bank balance.
Billy – who is rehearsing for his forthcoming role in The Proclaimers musical Sunshine On Leith – said: “I don’t have any money.
“We were unknown actors – we did it for peanuts and for food.”
File this under the unusual news of the day (via Monkeyday.org)…
New babies are showing up regularly at the Philadelphia Zoo this year. The latest is the aye-aye, born July 14, joining other recent giraffe and orangutan births.
The aye-aye boy, born to mom Medusa and dad Tolkien, was named Smeagol after his resemblance to the Lord of the Rings character, according to a release by the zoo.
Smeagol already has started to leave the nest box to explore his exhibit at the Zoo’s Peco Primate Reserve.
