WELLINGTON (Reuters) – A New Zealand man has been dubbed the Lord of the Ring after he searched and found his wedding ring more than a year after it slipped off his finger and sank to the sea floor.
The ring was lost for 16 months in the harbor of the country’s capital city, Wellington, before Aleki Taumoepeau found it shining on the sea floor, the DominionPost newspaper reported Thursday.
“The whole top surface of the ring was glowing,” Taumoepeau, an ecologist, said.
Taumoepeau had been married for just three months when he lost the wedding ring while conducting an environmental sweep of the harbor.

J.R.R. TolkienWe have been sitting on some spectacular news that we can finally share with the world! The Literary manuscripts from Marquette University’s renowned J.R.R. Tolkien Collection, the Holy Grail of Tolkien artifacts, will be on display in New York City to coincide exactly with the “Fellowship of the Ring,” screening and concert at Radio City Music Hall on October 9 and 10. There are other Middle-earth themed programming events planned in Midtown with more details to come.

The exhibit, “The Beginnings of a Masterpiece: Original Manuscripts from The Fellowship of the Ring,” will be held at Fordham’s Gerald M. Quinn Library at Lincoln Center, located conveniently close to the history Radio City location, October 5 through November 19. Wellington may play host to Hollywood stars as director Peter Jackson’s new film The Lovely Bones premieres in December. The red carpet has not been rolled out on Courtenay Place since King Kong launched in 2005. The Lovely Bones tells the story of a young murder victim who watches over her family and killer from heaven. Cast members include Mark Wahlberg, Rachel Weisz and Susan Sarandon. More..
