Time for our live webcast TORnTUESDAY! This week we are thrilled to have our friend join us for a special talk about Hobbits and Unicorns. Certainly Peter S. Beagle has stood at the intersection of many fandoms over his amazing career, including writing “The Lord of the Rings” screenplay in 1978 for Ralph Bakshi and then going on to write for Star Trek: The Next Generation during its heyday. Fans of THE LAST UNICORN will surely delight in his wit and playful manner, as Peter always brings out the lyrical found in every day things.
On the eve of a special event tomorrow at the Newport Beach Film Festival (see more here), Peter is going to screen the animated film based on his most famous book at USC tonight! We are going to sit and catch up with him a bit.

Tonight, via their most recent newsletter, fans are getting a chance to add another one of these mini-versions to their collections. On Friday message board member narflet let us know that images and details for the Tie-in books were available for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. According to the current list, there are going to be seven (count them!) tie-in books for film two. The United States Publication dates for all the books looks to be November 5th with the lone exception being the Weta Chronicles book which debuts on December 13th. The publication dates for the books in the United Kingdom are November 7th with the lone exception being the Annual being August 29th. An eagle-eyed reader let us know the other day about a very cool-looking art print of Gandalf the Grey called A Journey in the Dark.
