As we reported earlier this week it appears that figures from The Bridge Direct for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey are starting to land in stores before their official October 1st release date. We showed you pictures of the Legolas and Tauriel figures which are part of wave 1. Today, rumors are starting to surface around the internet that Warner Bros. may be having these two figures pulled from this wave. Why? It would be a sign that these two characters will not be making an appearance in the first Hobbit film. If there’s any truth to the rumor, you may want to grab these two figures if you see them because their value on the secondary market could jump quiet high because they’ll be in the packaging for the first movie.

Big thanks to Ringer MrHollandsays for sending us pics of the ‘Thorin Oakenshield & The Goblin King Battle Set’ from The Bridge Direct. You can pre-order the vast majority of these figures right now on Amazon.com – so start your ‘Hobbit’ collection today! For those wishing to avoid spoilers, don’t look beyond the break as we have close up shots of the figure! Word has been seeping out for a few weeks of some of the toy characters (on display at Comic-Con) being revealed through various channels of the pipeline that gets movie tie-ins to market. Now, made by Bridge Direct, they are for sale on store shelves in at least some locations including the new Toys-R-Us in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. Not only is it exciting to see new products (Tolkienites make great consumers!) but there are some clues about “The Hobbit: A Long Expected Journey,” and, our staff thinks, some false leads. But true or false, except for some glimpses in Peter Jackson’s production diaries, we have our first clear look of Evangeline Lilly as Tauriel. For those wishing to avoid spoilers, don’t look beyond the break!

The process of merchandise hitting the market and spoiling some aspects of movies is inevitable and fun for consumers but maybe less fun for filmmakers who may want to keep a lid on every possible detail. Lilly’s character, a creation of the screenwriting team, has been mildly controversial as a character not created by J.R.R. Tolkien who wrote the children’s novel the trilogy of movies is based on 75 years ago. Many message board users at TheOneRing.net have taken a wait-and-see stance. As part of the World Wide Celebration of Hobbit week we here at TORn along with our friends at Weta are pleased to announce a contest for their newest art print. As we told you earlier this week, Sunrise Upon Edoras is the third print in the series with a beautiful depiction of the first time Gandalf, Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli see Edoras as they come upon it in The Two Towers. Well, now you get a chance to win yourself a copy of this beautiful moment. Starting today through next Saturday September, 29th we will be taking entries sent to Elessar@theonering.net with the subject line Edoras Contest.  In the body of your email, just tell us your name, shipping information and a contact number.  Winner will be chosen at random – good luck!

If you’re a big fan of Tolkien and you’ve spent some time searching around for Tolkien related material online, you’ve probably come across an amazing replica of Minas Tirith built out of matchsticks. This eighth wonder of the world was designed and built by Pat Acton of Gladbrook, Iowa. Pat began building models of out of matchsticks in 1977, starting with a replica of his local church that consisted of 500 sticks. He’s since built over 60 models, including the U.S. Capitol Building, a space shuttle, and (using 600,000 matchsticks) the Hogwarts Castle from Harry Potter. His model of Minas Tirith, begun on April 7, 2007 and completed February 15, 2010, consists of 420,000 matchsticks, and includes hundreds of city buildings, as well as a certain white tree. In this exclusive for TheOneRing.net, TORN’s own J.W. Braun catches up with Pat and chews the fat, and Pat shares photos of the matchstick Minas Tirith model in development.

Weta recently surprised fans with another one of their amazing art prints. This is the third print in the series with a beautiful depiction of the first time Gandalf, Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli see Edoras as they come upon it in The Two Towers. Gus Hunter, the man responsible for the Flight to the Ford print, was tasked with bringing this moment in the trilogy to life, and from the gorgeous look of the pictures he’s done it quite well. This stunning print of a beautiful moment from the films is available right now from Weta for $35. Make sure you act fast before this print sails into the west.
