Our friend and LOTR Alum Actor Bruce Hopkins sends this in regarding his radio program: I had a chat with Mike Foster, who heads the US Tolkien Society and is a Professor of English. During his college days at Marquette University he got into Tolkien and was able to actually use Tolkiens original hand written manuscripts! He tells us how Tolien actually wrote on the back of exam papers and so the reverse side had comments to students with regard their marks etc. We only had 9 minutes to talk, but I will chat with Mike on another show and carry on our Tolkien conversations. I blame Canada Post for my missing out on The Toast festivities a few weeks back on January 3rd. You see the folks behind the forthcoming War in the North videogame planned an event to celebrate The Professor’s birthday in unison with geeks all across the land, on January 3rd we were to raise our collective glasses and cheer before preparing to go off to war! While this event did indeed happen, I did not participate! Seems Canada Post caused a delay and I did not receive a very special package that was promised to me weeks earlier by the folks at WB Games. Well it finally did arrive, with plenty of cool goodies for me to giveaway so fear not! We shall all be going to War (in the North) very soon! Check out the awesome package and stay tuned for your chance to win War in the North goodies from WB Games and be sure to check out www.warinthenorth.com. Wired: These photos show the kind of fine dining that keeps a hobbit happy.

The eight courses — served during traditional hobbit meal times like breakfast, second breakfast, elevensies, luncheon, afternoon tea, dinner and supper — made for quite a spread this past weekend at the annual screening of The Lord of the Rings movie trilogy at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, Texas.

“Each year we must gather to recount the epic quest of the hobbit Frodo and his merry band of dwarfs, wizards, elves and Viggo’s,” the cinema said in a press release. “We snuggle up together and watch the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy — nearly 12 hours — and get loaded to the gills with food, beer and wine all inspired by Tolkien’s Middle-earth.” More..

John Di Bartolo writes: Hail friends! Just released the first episode of “The Minstrel, the Painter, & the Scholar” with Ted Nasmith & Dr. Corey Olsen. If you would like to post a link, or even re-release/distribute this mp3 through your own sites please feel free to do so. Glad to be able to share this with you all – and feel free to forward this to any friends or fellow podcasters! Cheers! Stay tuned for episodes 2 and 3 with John, Ted & Corey.

In another two weeks we will finally be able to price out the roundtrip air needed to get to the cruise and back again. At that time I will be able to announce the New Zealand tour pricing, with the Australian tour options to follow shortly afterwards. Please visit our special cruise website for current details on the cruise itinerary, pricing and how to contact me for more information.

*SPECIAL OFFER* And as a nice little Mathom from me, in honor of The Professor’s birthday, here is a special incentive for all new bookings on this cruise, valid January 3-9 only. In addition to the amenities already listed for this cruise, I can now offer up to $150 of additional onboard credit. This is money that can be spent onboard for items such as spa treatments, in the shops onboard, on the Celebrity shore excursions or at the bar, among other onboard expenses. The amount is determined by the cabin category you choose, so just ask me and I’ll explain all the details. This is a really great opportunity to add some real value to a trip that promises to be amazing already. Just remember, this is for new bookings this week only.
