Fandalf visits the heart of Tolkiendom in America - Houghton Mifflin's HQ, Boston
You may remember this story from summer of last year: ‘Fandalf’ the travelling Gandalf statue (well, two of him actually…) was making his way around America and around Europe, stopping with fans in many different places and posing with famous landmarks. With San Diego ComicCon 2012 being the final stop on Fandalf’s journey, he has just over a month to go; so we thought readers might like an update on his travels!
The statue (made by Sideshow/Weta) which is travelling around America made his way over to the East coast. He was recently in Atlanta, followed by a few stops in New England (Rhode Island, Boston and Concord). Right now he’s winging his way (courtesy of a friendly eagle!) over to Ohio. The European Fandalf has been to various places in Germany, Belgium, France and Italy. The wonderful pictures hosting fans have taken can be seen at flickr.com – search for images tagged ‘Gandalf World Tour’. Many thanks to all who have hosted Fandalf – it’s great to think of fans all over the world mooting with the Grey Wizard!
As we draw closer to the release of the first Hobbit movie, San Diego ComicCon promises to be full of excitement and Middle-earth goodness! Fandalf’s return from his travels and merry meetings with fans will be a wonderful part of these ‘Hobbit Eve’ celebrations.

Here at TheOneRing.net, we are very proud of the community we have helped create, and like any community, we experience losses. One such loss occurred this weekend in Los Angeles, where the Tolkien fan community, and the costuming community as a whole, lost one of its brightest and most creative individuals. Kent Elofson died on May 18 of an apparent suicide in his Pasadena home, leaving behind a huge community of fellow costumers, all mourning his passing.
Don’t miss a chance to see Charlie Ross as he performs his ‘One Man Lord of the Rings’ at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, June 2nd 2012 (3pm or 8pm). We are thrilled to exclusively offer you 20% OFF the price of tickets when you use the code ‘ONERING.’ Follow the link below and enter the code during checkout, or call 1-888-go-njpac and mention the code to the ticket agent. If you are not familiar with the show:
“The big-screen Lord of the Rings may have had greater financial resources, but Charles Ross’ one-man version has just as much energy! This comedic send-up of Tolkien’s epic fantasy shoehorns 11 hours and 23 minutes of film into a mind-blowing, 65-minute performance in which Ross portrays 42 characters — as well as the theme music and sound effects. “Charles Ross is a winning entertainment machine,” says The Washington Post.”
This show has been universally praised by Ringers internationally, so we highly recommend checking it out. If you do go, please send in a report of your experience to spymaster @ theonering.net. [Buy Tickets]
We just wanted to take a brief moment to remind you to share your thoughts about our upcoming ‘The One Expected Party,’ taking place Feb 24th 2013 in Hollywood, CA. In the early 2000s, we were privileged enough to host three memorable events in Los Angeles: 2002’s ‘The One Party;’ 2003’s ‘Two Towers One Party;’ and 2004’s ‘The Return of the One Party.’ The last party, which corresponded with The Return of the King winning 11 Academy Awards, was such a success the LA Times called it ‘The hottest bash in town’ on Oscar Night. [LA Times] After the break, you can see a video of some highlights from that event. [Video] ‘The One Expected Party‘ is a fan-centered celebration of all things Middle-earth, so we are looking for your help and input. If you have any interest in the party, please take a couple of minutes and submit the form below. Thank you for your participation and we will be updating you along the way as prepare for Oscar night 2013. Continue reading “Don’t forget to share your thoughts about ‘The One Expected Party’ 2013”
