Waaaay back at the dawn of TheOneRing.net (last century) Badali Jewelry was the very first sponsor of our enterprise website that dared to follow “The Lord of the Rings” movie trilogy when it was just a whisper on the wind. Since then the maker of officially licensed Middle-earth jewelry have been tight with the website. But this year at Comic-Con, TORn and Badali are getting even closer! Besides making amazing One Rings, they feature custom works spanning 22 specialized genre lines and they expanded space for this year’s show, allowing enough room to share with us! TORn will be hanging out for the duration of SDCC, so really, we can’t thank them enough for that. (We will also have staff hanging with our friends at the Weta Workshop booth, more on that in another story!)
We checked in to see what they had going on for the show and it turns out they have some great new items, including plenty of “Hobbit” related stuff and some significant discounts. Here is what they had to say:
Our main announcement is that we will be hosting TORn at our booth this year, but of course, you already know that. š We are spreading our wings into two booth spaces this year so that means more room for people to peruse and have a friendly chat with the BJS Inc and TORn crews. We are in our traditional location of Booth #530 and now also #532.
We will also be debuting 3 brand new Officially Licensed The Hobbit pieces; Sterling Silver Bag End Door Necklace, White and Yellow Bronze Large Bag End Necklace or Key Chain, and Thror’s Key, used to open the Secret Way into The Lonely Mountains. Luke Evans, the actor playing Bard the Bowman in The Hobbit, has tweeted that he is starting his final four days of shooting on the film tomorrow.
Does this mean that the entire primary shoot could be finished mid-next week? Is it more evidence that points to a Peter Jackson appearance at Comic-Con? Or is it just that Evans is wrapping up his role?
Let the speculation begin!

Popular webzine io9 says that 2012 is the year for fantasy and urban-fantasy at Comic-Con. And, with the line-up featuring The Hobbit, Breaking Dawn, ParaNorman, The Legend of Korra, Game Of Thrones, and True Blood, Teen Wolf, 666 Park Avenue, Supernatural and Beauty And The Beast (plus much more), it’s a proposition that’s difficult to dispute. There’s also this paragraph buried near the bottom of the article:
True, Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel is rumored to be revealing a trailer, but what is a short trailer compared to actual panel time (and footage) with Peter Jackson?
Now, I don’t think I’ve seen any official word that Jackson will or won’t be in attendance. But I think this is some good guesswork (or perhaps an inside tip).
Consider: the wrap party for the Hobbit is on July 7 (Connolly is startlingly specific compared to McKellen’s much more vague comment that filming would conclude by the end of July. Comic-con starts July 11. Do you think the boss of the show wouldn’t attend the big promotional launch of his film at one of the world’s key fantasy-sf conventions?

This account of Ian McKellen’s one-man-show the other night at the Opera House in Wellington in aid of the earthquake-struck Isaac Theatre Royal in Christchurch features some glorious photography of the performance.
We mingled with the Hobbit cast, Martin Freeman expressing his general surprise at what was happening āWe had no idea about thisā (though with a grin on his face) and everyone then crowded in around Ian as he explained what would happen next.

Warner Bros. has not confirmed ‘The Hobbit’ panel at Comic-Con, but perhaps the vagaries of Twitter have. Several independent tweeters who attended Ian McKellen’s benefit show last night in Wellington have said Lee Pace stated Martin Freeman and Richard Armitage would be at Comic-Con in July. We cannot confirm the reports, but we believe them and expect both key “Hobbit” actors to be in San Diego. We also volunteer to act as popular-culture coaches as the place will be mad for them.
And while WB has officially said it hasn’t officially said a ‘The Hobbit’ panel will be part of the three-hour block the studio has reserved on Saturday in the 6,500 seat Hall H, but it is widely believed ‘The Hobbit,’ will play a big part of it. The hall, the biggest the convention center has to offer, has required waiting in long lines at least the last three years and now even camping out for a space is not unheard of. Over 125,000 people attend the show each year.
