We’re also getting ready to party with WETA and others tonight at The East Wing – sorry, we’re sold out, but for those who have purchased tickets, see you there!

And finally, don’t forget our panel on Saturday, 9pm, room 1A21: ‘The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies – an Unofficial Look!’

Ringers take the Big Apple by storm -we hope to see YOU!

WetaNew York Comic-Con starts tomorrow and we’ve teamed up with our friends at Weta Workshop to do a pretty awesome giveaway. The prize for this give away is Weta’s amazing The Art of Film Magic – 20 Years of Weta!

The winner’s copy of this amazing book (easily the coolest art book in my own collection) will come signed by Richard Taylor and several other of the super cool folks who work for Weta Workshop as well as Weta Digital.

Hobbit LOTR boxed setNew York ComicCon is almost upon us, and as you know, TheOneRing.net will be there, at booth 3040, at our panel Saturday at 9pm, and at our party with Weta Workshop on Thursday evening. (More details here – two more tickets just became available for the party, so snap ’em up before they’re gone!)

One of our generous sponsors for New York ComicCon is Houghton Mifflin Harcourt – publishers of Tolkien in the United States. They have given us some wonderful items for the party goody bags, as well as some lovely prizes for giveaways. One such item is a SNEAK PREVIEW – this beautiful ‘pocket boxed set’ of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings will not be available to buy until October 21st, but we have two sets to give away to some lucky folks at ComicCon!

Here’s what Houghton Mifflin Harcourt say about this new set:

‘This four-volume, deluxe pocket boxed set contains J.R.R. Tolkien’s epic masterworks The Hobbit and the three volumes of The Lord of the Rings (The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King). Each book features a leatherette cover with stamped title and all  four books are held in a leatherette bound box with gold foil stamping.’

The books are roughly 7 inches tall, and are therefore an ideal size to take with you whenever you want to have the Professor’s words to hand! If you aren’t lucky enough to win a set from us at New York ComicCon, you can order from HMH here. Our thanks to them for their continued support of TheOneRing.net!

NYCC

We tried to film an episode on how to survive in a city, but we kept getting interrupted by this strange man in a TORn shirt… As a result, here are our attempts at an urban episode, complete with a special guest, Thorongil! And where is he headed? To New York Comic Con, of course! Unfortunately, he’s starting his journey from California. Do you think he will make it to the other side of the country in time?

Note: if you haven’t guessed it yet, this skit was our fun way to get you the NYCC details! 😉 We hope all who go have a blast!

Smaug guards his hoard at the Hall of FireHobbits, and Rangers, and Elves! Not to mention Dwarves, and Easterlings, and Haradrim! All are welcome at Tolkien Forever‘s annual Hall of Fire event on Saturday, October 11. Every year this party seems to grow more elaborate as we take over a massive, multi-tiered yard at a private residence in Glendora, CA, and turn each nook and alcove into a different Middle-earth-themed experience. Share music and poetry in the Rivendell Pavilion, have dinner, supper, and tea in Hobbiton, peruse Smaug’s golden hoard, and raise a pint or three with the crowd in the Flaming Mûmak Tavern. Costumes are highly encouraged (although not required), and like the Hall of Fire in the House of Elrond, everyone is welcome to participate by bringing games, poems, stories, and music to share.

Partygoers at the Flaming Mumak TavernAs the event is held at a private residence, the address will be sent to those who RSVP directly on our Facebook event page, or email saystine@att.net. All ages are welcome, but please be responsible for your children. The party is held in a big backyard with a pool in the middle of it. Some parts of the yard are dimly lit, so please be aware of your surroundings. All party attendees must respect the wishes of the home owners at all times.

For more information and to RSVP, visit the Hall of Fire’s Facebook page. To see pictures from previous events, click here and here! Tolkien Forever is the local Los Angeles Lord of the Rings fan club group and the L.A. Smial of the Tolkien Society.
