June 26th saw the presentation of the Saturn Awards in Burbank, California. These honours are awarded to movies and television shows by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films, and this year Dan Hennah was awarded Best Production Design in the Film Awards for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Many congratulations to him from everyone here at TORn!
Word reached us that Sir Ian McKellen shot his final scene as Gandalf on June 28th in Wellington, goodbye has also been said to Evangeline Lilly’s Tauriel, and now Orlando Bloom has finished his last day as Legolas. Somehow it feels like the end of an era; and of course the cast and crew want to celebrate the journey they’ve been on together. Peter Jackson posted this video – not tears but laughter as Legolas bids farewell! Also there’s some information about what Legolas might be doing in future films – SPOILER below the video!

For one of you who cannot make it to Comic-Con you’re going to be able to get one of these sent to your home and add The Pale Orc to your collection. Azog is limited to just 2600 pieces world-wide so this will be one of the rarer figures in your collection as well. The contest will run from now June 29th through July 7th at midnight PST this will ensure that The Bridge Direct can get you the figure during Comic-Con 2013 which is July 17-21.
This weekend, Hall of Fire returns to The Lord of the Rings as we continue our chapter discussions of The Two Towers.
Throughout the first half of The Two Towers, Tolkien weaves together two threads of narrative. On one hand we have Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas and their efforts to find the hobbits, and then to assist the Rohirrim. On the other, Merry and Pippin’s captivity among the Uruk-hai, their escape and their burgeoning friendship with the Ents of Fangorn.
If you have a Tolkien/Middle-earth inspired poem you’d like to share, then send it to email@example.com. One poem per person may be submitted each month. Please make sure to proofread your work before sending it in. TheOneRing.net is not responsible for poems posting with spelling or grammatical errors.
