Businesswire.com reports: Greenberg Glusker announces that entertainment attorneys Bert Fields and Bonnie E. Eskenazi were included on The Hollywood Reporter’s Power Lawyers list– its annual report of the 100 most influential attorneys in the entertainment industry. One of just a handful of women named to the Power Lawyers list, Ms. Eskenazi regularly plays a leading role in resolving high-profile and landmark entertainment disputes. Currently, Ms. Eskenazi represents the Estate of J.R.R. Tolkien, the author of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings books, in a $150 million profit participation action against New Line Cinema.

Yes, Gandalf is competing in the Olympics. Of course, this ‘Gandalf’ happens to be a 10 year old Grey horse entered in the Equestrian events. New Zealand’s Mark Todd is the rider, one of the most decorated rider’s in Eventing history. You can check out his profile at NBC Olympics.com and then check the stats for where he falls in the competition there as well. [Gandalf’s Profile]
Another week, another great FLASHBACK from Ringer Diedye. This week’s flashback details the events that took place in the Tolkien universe between August 3rd and August 9th. This is a weekly feature that Diedye posts in the forum, so if there is ever a time we don’t post it on the homepage of TORn, make sure to check the Main board in our forums. Our friend Ian Brodie wrote in to let us know he revamped his website www.ianbrodie.net. He also writes “During my time searching the archives I came across a piece televised by TVNZ just prior to the release of my first The Lord of the Rings Locations Guidebook in 2002. I’ve put it up on my site in the IBLog section and thought your visitors might like to see it. It was never shown outside of Middle-earth Aotearoa, and it gives a glimpse of some of the locations.”
Forum member Finduilas101 just posted a link to some great LOTR themed music videos from TheAragonath.cc. I’m not 100% sure if TORn has reported on these videos in the past, but they are unique and entertaining enough to have a second mention. If you have some time today (in between the Olympics) check out the 30+ videos of LOTR film scenes set to popular music. Gotta say, my personal favorite is the Sauron composition to Black Sabbath’s ‘Iron Man,’ though the Eomer mix to ‘Seven Nation Army’ is pretty solid too. Then again, there is the Modest Mouse ‘Float On’ mix to Merry and Pippin…and then…oh you’ll see… there are a lot of good ones. Going through them all might take a little bit of time, but hey, what else were you going to do today? 🙂 [LOTR Music Videos]
Sideshow Collectibles does not post coupons very often, and it is even less likely that they give coupons to fan sites like TORn – but we’ve managed to snag one for our collectors! From now until Sept 30th 2008, you can save $10 off the Frodo Baggins 12-inch Figure Exclusive, as well as $10 off the Samwise Gamgee 12-inch Figure Exclusive. The coupon code to use at checkout is ‘TORN’ (without the quotes) and you can use it on both figures, but not in the same order. So if you are looking to purchase both figures, place two separate orders and use the code ‘TORN’ for each one. This will save you $10 off each figure for a total of $20 in savings! If you are not familiar with this line of The Lord of the Rings figures, it can be argued that they are some of the most film accurate and detailed collectibles to ever be produced. Each figure is fully poseable and comes with a mountain of accessories. For a great comprehensive review of these figures, check out the one posted at MWCToys.com.
