A short clip from The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug featuring Thranduil, Tauriel and Legolas screen this evening at the The MTV European Music Awards, introduced by Martin Freeman.
Our army of spies and crebain have alerted us to its existence, and a recording of it is already floating about around on the internet. The clip is, in fact, a significant part of one of the scenes screened at the worldwide Fan Event last week. As the live feed of the ‘Desolation of Smaug’ Fan Event ended, those of us who were lucky enough to be in a theater were treated to five extended scenes from the upcoming movie that totalled approximately 20 minutes of never-before-seen footage. And what we saw was truly spellbinding!
The theater-exclusive material began with a full music video for the new closing credits song, ‘I See Fire’. It was quite a good song, but it doesn’t quite capture the magic of, say, ‘May It Be’ or ‘Into the West’, but few songs can. It’s a folk/pop ballad about Thorin’s determination to win back Erebor at any cost. This week in the roll out we’ve seen of new collectibles tied to The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug we get something that allows you to bring parts of the film home early. These collectibles brought to you from Film Cells Ltd. capture little pieces of film placed in some pretty cool looking frames and some even allow you to bring more than one shot home. As of now you have ten different selections for film, two with six book marks and 4 different film frames. The coolest option is the film frame with 10 different scenes from what appears to be the first trailer. This is the option I went with and I got some pretty cool scenes capturing Legolas, Thranduil, Balin, Thorin/Dwarves all covered in spiderweb, Mirkwood, Azog, and I even got one with Smaug in it. I also ordered a bookmark and got a cool shot of Thorin covered in Spiderweb. I also asked the folks if there were more options coming as we get closer to the film and we will be getting more options.
