In a interview at WETA Cave Guillermo del Toro gives an insight to the ‘slightly different feel’ of the landscapes that will be seen in The Hobbit Movie. GdT said that they will evolve ‘little by little’ and by the second Hobbit Film hopefully they will be very different. They are currently also working on new technologies for the filming. How serious are things getting on pre-pre-production on “The Hobbit”? Unconfirmed word has reached us (thanks spies!) that Lawrence Makoare (the unforgettable Lurtz, among other roles) has been asked to meet with Guillermo del Toro regarding “The Hobbit.” Certainly the versatile actor, stuntman and good guy would be great to have around the set but on a purely speculative note, do we have our Goblin King?

Oscar-winning film-maker Peter Jackson is to head a major government review of the Film Commission – a body he once accused of making poor funding decisions. The appointment was announced today by Arts, Culture and Heritage Minister Chris Finlayson – with Jackson saying the review was timely in a rapidly changing international movie climate. David Court, head of screen business at the Australian Film, Television and Radio School, would work with Jackson on the review. The pair will examine the Commission’s legislation and constitution, its functions, powers and finances. “The NZ Film Commission is a vital and indispensable component of our film industry,” Jackson said. Guillermo del Toro, director of hit films like Hellboy and Pan’s Labyrinth to name a few, is in New Zealand to film his latest movie The Hobbit. But on Wednesday, many queued up in Wellington to see the man, though not because of his movies. Rather, it was to get him to autograph their copies of a novel written by the highly-acclaimed Mexican director himself.
