First, HAPPY NEW YEAR WORLD! 2010 is ripe with promise for fans looking forward to the filming of two Hobbit movies to begin.
And next, Peter Jackson is now ‘Sir Peter’ as he was among a group of five New Zealanders awarded the status of ‘Knight’ or ‘Dame’ on the New Year’s list. In a written statement, Sir Peter called receiving the honor an “incredible moment”. “I didn’t think anything would surpass the 2004 Academy Awards, but I was wrong.”
A big thanks to all of those who sent in links about the story while we were enjoying the holidays with our families. There are many places to read more including: www.stuff.co.nz, www.nzherald.co.nz, and www.empireonline.com. Congrats to Sir Peter and his team who have had such a big impact on New Zealand and the world.
From Kristin at ReelzChannel: ReelzChannel asked its own employees to pick their Top 10 of the Decade. In three lists, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy made the cut (more than any other movie or movie series). Two of the lists TLOTR topped are below. ‘Top 10 Action/Adventure Movies of the Decade’ and ’10 Must-Own DVDs (and Blu-rays) from the Decade’. The final list that the movies appear on will be released on Friday.
From MSN: For years, J.R.R. Tolkien’s landmark three-volume fantasy “The Lord of the Rings” was considered unfilmable. But New Zealand director PeterJackson, best known by the late ’90s for some splattery horror flicks and the elegant but tiny “Heavenly Creatures,” had a vision of how to put “Rings” on the screen. That vision (filming three movies at once, using the latest in visual effects and with New Zealand standing in for Middle Earth) was embraced by executives at New Line Cinema, Jackson’s co-producers and writing partners, scores of dedicated crew members, and a cast who brought beloved characters such as Frodo, Sam, Gandalf and Gollum to fully realized and wondrous life. Falk von Tatichingen writes: The German magazine “Stern” on its online page has started a poll for the “movie of the decade”. The LOTR-Trilogy is in lead with “The Dark Knight” and “Sin City” close behind. LOTR needs more supporters. The Link to the poll is here. Poll is easy: 10 is maximum points (as in very good movie), 1 is minimum points (as in bad movie).
