Continue Reading“The Lord of the Rings” is coming to Oakland’s Oracle Arena in concert form Saturday, and as part of the experience, there will be a display of props created during the production of the movie trilogy that are now part of a private collection of Troika Brodsky.
Among the shields, helmets and costumes featured are Gimli’s battle-ax, a complete Ringwraith costume, a pair of hairy hobbit feet and Frodo’s sword, Sting. More..
Today, via their Facebook page Sideshow Collectibles has released a video of an upcoming Ringwraith Statue. In the video, we get a glimpse of the steed portion of the statue in production, and not much else. If this is a mounted piece, it will be a welcome return to the very popular Sideshow/Weta mounted statues from the early 2000s. The concept art shown in the video implies we will see just that. One question is will this end up joining the premium format line or the maquette line. Let’s hope we find out during the Spooktacular Event which starts next Monday, October 24th. [View the Teaser]
Big Fan writes: It was stupendous. It was, for me, a dream come true. To hear it live was exhilirating, to watch the musicians was inspiring. I always knew it was complex composition, but to watch the string players do what they do, with this music, for such a prolonged period of time, without missing a note, was awe-inspiring. I loved it when the music swelled to the point of drowning out the dialogue.

More than 200 musicians pick up their instruments Saturday night to accompany The Lord of the Rings film “The Fellowship of the Ring.” The score, composed by Howard Shore, won both the Grammy and Academy awards. The film will be projected onto a 60-foot screen at the Honda Center in Anaheim.
Musicologist Doug Adams was given exclusive access to Howard Shore, his scores, and the film’s original artwork for his book “The Music of the Lord of the Rings Films.” More..

morphiaflow writes: I live in Glendale, AZ and attended the premiere of the LORD OF THE RINGS—FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING symphony concert tour last night (Wednesday October 12, 2011), at the Jobbing.com Arena. I offer my thoughts on the event for any who might care.
For starters, let me state that I’m a lifelong Tolkien/LOTR fan, as well as a fan of Peter Jackson in general, AND Howard Shore—I love not just his film scores, but as a huge Saturday Night Live fan, the fact that he was a crucial part of that show in its formative years makes him an extremely interesting individual to me. So the Jackson/Shore/Tolkien association has always been a multiple win in my book.
Also, back in fall 2009 I attended the “Star Wars In Concert” tour at the same venue, which featured musical suites from all six films, with live orchestra and choir, hosted and narrated by Anthony Daniels (C-3P0). The musical selections were arranged more or less chronologically in the Star Wars saga, but sometimes linked by a theme, a character or a specific part of the story arc, and were accompanied by visuals (but not dialogue) from the Star Wars films.
