Here’s some new, unpublished images from The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey courtesy of Cinemarcado! The new photos reveal scenes with Bilbo Baggins, Gandalf The Grey and a photo of a very youthful-looking (and slightly creepy) Frodo Baggins. Some of TORn’s chatters suggest that the images may not have been colour-graded yet.

Hugo Weaving speaks to Collider about the convoluted, constantly changing beast that is the film versions of The Hobbit.
I found out The Hobbit was going to be a trilogy quite recently, when everyone else found out about it. Originally, when I said goodbye to Pete [Jackson] in L.A., I said, “I’ll see you on The Hobbit,” and he said, “Well, I’m not doing The Hobbit.” And then, it was, “We are doing The Hobbit, but I’m not going to direct it.” And then, it was, “Well, I am directing it now.” And then, it was, “Actually, we’re doing The Hobbit in two films.” So, when I went to shoot it out there, there were two scripts and two films.
Now, I’ve just found out, not that long ago, when it was announced. He said, “Well, we’ve got all this fabulous material and these wonderful people.” They hadn’t filmed the final battle sequence yet, which would have been at the end of 2. For a number of reasons, they decided that there are three films in there. I hope there are. I don’t know. I was truly there for four or five weeks and enjoyed myself, and went home again. My knowledge of the workings of Middle Earth, at the moment, are very minimal.

On July 14 at this year’s Comic-Con, a thirteen-minute montage of clips from The Hobbit was shown during an appearance by Peter Jackson and cast members of the film. Afterward in press interviews, Jackson unexpectedly hinted that The Hobbit, long announced as being made in two parts to be released in December 2012 and 2013, might be expanded to three parts. This possibility inspired much skepticism among fans and members of the press. And yet only two weeks later, on July 30, it was announced that The Hobbit would indeed be released in three parts, the third to appear in the summer of 2014.
Although some fans of the film of The Lord of the Rings were delighted, there was much speculation in the press that the move was made from sheer greed, milking a third blockbuster from Tolkien’s modest children’s book. There were even some accusations that Jackson had lost his creativity and was seeking to extend his most successful series beyond its logical stopping point. TORnadoes ask about it often in person at events, via email, on Twitter and Facebook: “Will there be line party events and organizations for The Hobbit movies?” The answer is a resounding YES! There will be some changes around TORn, any minute now, or at least in just a few hours after this post. Part of the purpose is to make things as great as possible, to get the site ready for The Hobbit onslaught but also to accommodate local gatherings around the world. Movie tickets should go on sale around November 7 and we hope to help events organize in a grass-roots fashion around the globe. Stay tuned and spread the word! Consider theater destinations, consider organizations in your community like book stores, movie clubs, people who love lines and consider lending a hand to a world wide effort to see “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” with like-minded friends. Thanks for your energy and enthusiasm and get ready!
Thanks to Ataahua for sending in a link to this story from The Guardian: This time last year, New Zealand was under the spell of the Rugby World Cup, with host nation enthusiasm going a long way to realising the organisers’ vision of a “stadium of four million”. In 2012, the big event features hairy feet of a different sort, with the New Zealand-made film The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey opening with a world premiere in Wellington, the home town of director Sir Peter Jackson, in six weeks.
