Artwork for the Lego Lake-town chase set has been around for a while.
The set, which has just five mini-figs — Bard the Bowman, Bilbo Baggins, Thorin Oakenshield, a Lake-town Guard and the Master of Lake-town — also features several Lake-town buildings, and a boat. I’d forgotten about it entirely until Ringer Sander recently reminded me of the existence of the Lake-town Chase set. Looking over the artwork again, I got thinking about the significance of that boat and exactly what this Lake-town chase might be, and its relation to what we saw in the trailer itself. The previous two TV spots didn’t feature any new scenes. This one, however, features some all-new dialogue that we haven’t heard before from Thranduil, Bilbo and Gandalf — plus an entirely different closing scene! Personally, I’m betting Bilbo’s line occurs somewhere in the deeps of Mirkwood.

Bard the Bowman. Ringer Joachim writes to us about this very nice fan trailer that he’s made using film scenes from PJ’s livecast earlier this year, parts of both Desolation of Smaug trailers and even some promo clips for the first movie. His unexpected journey has taken Bilbo Baggins and his dwarf buddies from bucolic Hobbiton and through the Misty Mountains. And over the course of the three-hour movie, it almost felt like we were there for Every. Single. Step. Now Peter Jackson appears poised to ramp up the action and kick things into a higher gear. Or at least that’s the promise in the new trailer for “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.”
The second chapter in the three-part Middle-earth epic has been flying under the radar for the better part of the year with a notable non-presence at San Diego Comic-Con and no new footage revealed for several months. But that all changed today with a burst of dragon fire to remind you that Smaug is one badass reptile. And he’s not the only peril facing our intrepid band. Our good friends at Harper Collins – Tolkien publishers in the UK – are running a competition where they want to see YOUR version of Tolkien’s mighty dragon Smaug! They say:
